There are few things as sad to witness* as a dad who is shouting at his young children, and they are evidently so used to his outbursts that they completely ignore him.**
* Airport observations.

** Since I don't have kids, I do feel bad judging people for their parenting skills (even if it very much looks like they are regularly treating their children in an inappropriate way.)
And... they just took my plane out of service.

So far, the case fatality rate for corona is 3.4%.

This could be an underestimate since some infected patients may yet die from it.

It could also be an overestimate since many mild cases have not been detected.

Let's all hope the second driver is more powerful than the first.
It seems very likely that under-detection is a more powerful driver of the current case fatality rate than patients who are diagnosed but have not yet died.

There's also hope that greater familiarity with corona will improve treatment outcomes.

But we can't be sure that's true.
A few notes:

You get to the case fatality rate by dividing the total number of detected cases by the total number of deaths.

According to the WHO, that is:

China: 80,422 detected cases / 2,984 deaths.
Outside China: 12,668 detected cases / 214 deaths.

Biden keeps being described as a centrist. He's not. Look at his policy program. It's robustly social democratic. (No, seriously, look. I'll wait.)

Biden's campaign is also deeply racially inclusive. He didn't win black voters because they're confused or know nothing about politics. 

He won them over because they value demonstrated solidarity and realistic promises that actually improve their lives.

Biden offered both.

For weeks and months, people have been lumping Biden and Bloomberg together as "moderates" or "centrists."

But there's a huge difference between a moderate progressive who's always been a Democrat and a centrist who used to be a Republican.

And the voters know it.
Whatever you think about the strength or weakness of individual candidates, the most successful Democratic politicians—like, yes, Obama—have proven that there is a big base for moderate progressives.

The idea that the country is lying in wait for a centrist was always untested.
One more thought.

Electability is inherently probabilistic.

Could a far-left candidate beat Trump? Sure!

Could a moderate candidate lose to Trump? Absolutely!

The question is which candidate maximizes the chances of victory. The evidence strongly points towards moderates.

i read it's the first day of school in mississippi. this is the first day some of these kids have ever been away from mom and dad. their parents have been talking to them for months about how to be brave, because mommy will always come get you no matter what.

The war btwn buyers & renters has been long and exhausting. Frankly, I don’t expect it to be won today.
The topic is controversial but let’s just do some housekeeping before we get into the meat of it.
First, let’s agree a home means very different things to different people. There is financial value and there’s sentimental value to home ownership. The mistake I see people make when debating is to completely ignore the sentimental value and focus purely on the financial value.
I’ll give you an example: Buying a car is one of the most financially unsound things you can do with your money if you are not in the transport business. But does it make it dumb to buy a car? Not in a chaotic city whose public transport barely struts along by the grace of God.
