People are VERY UPSET at Lambda School because the UX Design Track was bad. Lambda agreed and cancelled all of the ISAs for the track
It's sad that a few cohorts of students put life on hold for 8 mos.
But show me a college program that ever canceled its own debt for performance
It's very interesting the standard to which new innovative programs, which are supposedly "unaccountable", are held up to.

And the totally shit standards US College System has, while it enjoys massive demand to SUBSIDIZE IT.

We've had a massive amount of rain here in the Midwest. Within just a couple of days, this is what the standing water in the field looks like.
It blooms algae almost immediately due to the ammonia nitrates farmers dump into their soils to give them enough nitrogen to grow acres of mono culture crops. This runs of into water ways and chokes animals in water sources w/algae blooms. scientificamerican.com/article/deadly…

John Hasnas wrote a paper called "Myth of the Rule of Law" in which he suggests all law becomes manipulated over time to justify whatever judicial class wants.

I'm thinking there is likely a parallel concept: "Myth of the Role of Reason".
That is people erroneously believe politics is process of thoughtful discussion, that "the discourse" is a healthy way to surface truth. I increasingly don't think that's the case. It's more like a process of fabricating justification for the naked use of power.
Libertarians will always lose because they're dedicated to logical consistency. This doesn't matter, because most people don't want consistency. They want the power to take what they want and they'll accept whatever ideas are useful to justify the use of that power.

1. I stopped by the Good Design exhibit at @MuseumModernArt and was reminded how strange it is to put everyday objects up on a wall.

When you take something like a fork, which is meant to be held, and put in up like art, the way it looks is the primary way you evaluate it.
2. It's a good exhibit, but passively the effect of evaluating lounge chairs, typewriters and fishing rods without ever feeling them in your hand or experiencing them for their designed purpose, shallows what design is, and how visitors think about design.
3. In other words, there's nothing ugly here since aesthetics is the primary way visitors can evaluate what they see. But some great designs aren't necessarily all that stunning to look at. They will never be shown here.

A couple things
1/10 - Don’t hide things from your team in an effort to protect/shield them. That’s weird. It’ll come back to bite you.

2/10 - Do actual work. Meaningful work. Context-building work. Analysis. Research. Design smart experiments. A good test is whether the team would pay you if they controlled the budget.
3/10 - Act like a member of the team, not as a manager of the team. The second you create a wall...the team will create a wall as well. Consider inviting a facilitator in so you can express your own needs (instead of juggling facilitation and team membership)

Some quick tips for guiding your team to be more outcome focused.

1. Use the language of missions, bets, outcomes, etc. *alongside* whatever ppl are currently used to (output, dates, features, etc.). A trojan horse! No one will stop you. #proddev #ux #design
2. Periodically review outcomes...even for more prescriptive bits of work. Once a month is good. Invite everyone + tell good stories. Admit failures! No one will stop you. #proddev #ux #design
3. Very subtle...but use the statement order "Trying to [Outcome or bet] by [some intervention]". Keep hammering home the expected outcome. It'll start to stick. And ppl will realize the intervention is secondary. #proddev #ux #design

Notice how words like discovery, design, delivery, build, and run often get coopted to silo / segment / divide teams/ppl

To draw imaginary lines around skills. To protect kingdoms even. To make pretty left to right diagrams.
