The Awesome Power of Peer Reviewers explained:
Imagine the reviewer was the best person on earth, and the author the worst person...but with claims to essential results.

What is going on that academic reviewers are talking this flippantly about an essentially fiduciary & obligate duty to recuse themselves in all such cases??
Who is going to tell the current academicians “You don’t get to make that call. That’s never been a part of your job. Imagine the author is a *terrible* person. The worst. Tough luck. That isn’t a way we joke and for very good reasons. It’s a solemn non discretionary obligation.”
A reviewer can ask the author not to revert to an older standard of using ‘he’ for default third person singular in English. That’s absolutely fine. But she/he doesn’t get to fantasize on Twitter about ignoring authors she/he doesn’t like. That has never been her/his prerogative.
