A completely crazy thread on Corona virus.

What if instead of the public health emphasis on calming everyone, someone instead leveled with us? Actually told us the truth.

“It is possible, that a lot of us may be about to die. Let’s not panic however as death is always with us.”
“Americans have had unprecedented good luck for the last 75 years and we are going to have to realize, as we did on 9/11 and with the fall of Lehmann Bros., that this period may be anomalous. Thus we need to do what previous generations did: Toughen up and prepare for loss.”
“1st, it would be a good time to recognize that our older & more vulnerable citizens could benefit from younger stronger people willing to take on burden & risk, making sure they are getting support if they are alone. 2nd, let’s take time to make some preparation for the worst.”
“But while we don’t know how bad this may be, let us remember that life is an adventure without guarantees. If you see people panicking, share your strength with them. We need to get back to being a stronger nation with an ability to take and bear real risk together. Thank you.”
I would react much better to honest talk than to this confusing mealy mouthed lecturing about how I need to be smart and not touch my face but continue to go about my normal life while watching the markets though not taking them seriously yet constantly washing my hands.
You too?
I mean this is pretty bad. It may be no worse than pretty bad, but why not call for toughness? Are we that weak? Are our just-in-time supply lines & inventories that thin? If so, let’s fix that fast! Can’t we be the people who founded and fought for our nations? Or is that over?
So in summary: tell me how bad we think this is. How can you lead if what you say makes no sense because it starts backwards from: “Everything is fine but you need to take personal responsibility in an impractical way because the global authorities lost control of this one.”
