NEW: Two Montgomery County Public School students, ages 20 and 19, were recently arrested at their respective high schools, on allegations they raped different 11yo girls at apartments located off-campus.

Jonathan Coreas-Salamanca and Ivan Reyes Lopez are being held w/o bond.
MORE: According to sources, police arrested Coreas-Salamanca on Feb. 13, at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, where he is enrolled as a student.

Six days later, on Feb. 19, police arrested Lopez at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School where he is enrolled as a student.
MORE: Coreas-Salamanca is accused of providing his victim with a cell phone. He allegedly used it to exchange explicit texts and photos, plus arrange sexual meetups.

The 11yo victim's father later discovered texts describing "vaginal intercourse, fellatio, and cunnilingus."
MORE: Lopez is accused of luring a different 11yo girl from a park near the Rollingwood Apartments in Silver Spring to his uncle's apartment.

The 19yo reportedly told the girl to sit on a bed. He then turned on Netflix before raping her, the victim would later tell detectives.
MORE: The Maryland Education Code mandates all state residents - between five and 20 - are entitled to free, public school education. Many 20yo students turn 21 during their final year of schooling.

I asked MCPS how many 19, 20, and 21-year-old students are currently enrolled.
MORE: MCPS responded, questioning the relevancy of that information.

"There is no data suggesting that being a high school student at 19, 20, or 21 makes a person more or less likely to commit a crime," spokeswoman Gboyinde Onijala stated. "Any suggestion otherwise is wrong."
MORE: Late last night, 7 On Your Side formally submitted a Maryland Public Information Act with MCPS, requesting the age-based statistics.

As of this morning, the school system had not provided the data points, which 7 On Your Side believes is a matter of public record.
MORE: Parent Jennifer Gross wonders what MCPS will do if either suspect obtains bond.

"If the school system would not allow an employee or a volunteer to be back in the school while they’re facing such serious charges, how does that change when it’s a student? They’re over 18."
STORY LINK: According to ICE, Coreas-Salamanca is a Salvadoran national living in the U.S. illegally.

The federal law enforcement agency has filed an immigration detainer with the Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation.

UPDATE: Following our story, MCPS sent this letter yesterday to parents and guardians of BCC and Montgomery Blair students.

It, in part, questioned my reporting.

"It remains unclear to us why the reporter chose to place so much focus on the schools they attend in his story.”
