AMCON STATEMENT

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1136/2019 has ordered AMCON to take over the business & assets of Bedko Nigeria Limited and Alhaji Buba Galadima—both parties owe AMCON nearly N900million.

The loan was purchased during the first phase of Eligible Bank Assets purchase from Unity Bank Plc in 2011. Since then, AMCON has offered the obligor a good measure of olive branches and explored all avenues to resolve the matter amicably, ...
... but the obligor, and his company, Bedko Nigeria Limited have remained recalcitrant and unwilling to repay the huge debt to the Corporation.
The order, which was granted to AMCON by Honourable Justice A.I. Chikere, the presiding judge gave the Government recovery agency the power to take over some properties belonging to the politician.
The properties include House No. 15, Addis Ababa Crescent, Wuse Zone 4, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja and house No. 4, Bangui Street, Wuse 2 also in Abuja.
Recall that aside the fact that the Federal Government set up the Inter-Agency Committee on the recovery of AMCON debt, President Buhari also signed the 2019 Amended AMCON Act into law.
The amendment gives AMCON additional powers to go after all obligors of the Corporation no matter how highly placed in the society.
Having taking over the properties, Jude Nwauzor, Head of Corporate Communications of AMCON said the Corporation will take all necessary actions, which includes asset take-over, liquidation, winding-up and garnishee proceedings against Bedko Nigeria Limited and its directors...
... in line with the Court judgement and relevant sections of AMCON Act as amended.
AMCON led by Mr Ahmed Kuru as Managing Director/Chief Executive has intensified efforts at recovering the over 5 Trillion Naira outstanding indebtedness to the Corporation.
The AMCON CEO has repeatedly reiterated the fact that AMCON under his leadership will do whatever it takes within the law to recover the huge debt, and will not mind the status of the obligor in the discharge of the duties of AMCON. //

The National Directorate of Employment has kicked off a Special Public Works Programme (SPW), to engage young Nigerians in rural local governments.

40,000 young Nigerians, aged 18-30, already engaged in pilot phase:

-8 States
-5 rural LGAs per State
-1,000 beneficiaries per LGA
The eight States in the pilot phase of the @NDENigeria-managed SPW program are as follows:

Ebonyi
Borno
Edo
Ekiti
Adamawa
Kwara
Katsina
Jigawa

The SPW is a 3-month paid initiative aimed at engaging young unemployed Nigerians in rural areas, during the dry (non-farming) season.
SPW Beneficiaries have been engaged to carry out clearing/cleaning of streets, markets, schools, drains, etc; and also maintenance of rural feeder roads.

No skills or formal education are required for the SPW Program. The target areas are rural communities.

The Federal Governement of Nigeria (FGN) has engaged and continues to engage with international partners, including the USA, in the recovery and return to Nigeria of stolen assets. Nigeria and the USA are continually cooperating in the recovery and return of those assets.
This long-standing cooperation recently culminated in the successful signing of memorandum of understanding for the repatriation of over $300 million looted assets associated with General Sani Abacha.
Recall that prior to the 2020 agreement with the USA and Island of Jersey, the Federal Government of Nigeria had signed an agreement for the return of over 300 million US Dollars in 2017 which was effectively deployed for the purpose for which it was agreed to be applied.

The government of President Buhari remained committed to the recovery of whatever funds are owed Nigeria and the government in that regard has gone to court in different countries to assert its rights as victim of corruption in order to have those assets returned to Nigeria.
In the same manner that Nigeria is asserting its rights to the assets, there are others, including individuals, entities and countries who have rights and who have gone to court to contest the legality or otherwise of Nigeria’s claims against their assets.

SERAP has filed a lawsuit against @Zshamsuna ,Minister of @FinMinNigeria over failure to disclose information &specific documents on total amount of money paid to contractors from the $460 million loan obtained in 2010 from China to fund the apparently failed Abuja CCTV project..

Justice Binta Murtala Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, yesterday reaffirmed her declaratory judgment in the suit filed in 2009 by Malam Nasir @elrufai, that there is no missing N32bn from the sale of government houses he supervised as FCT minister.
Malam Nasir @elrufai filed the case in 2009 when the EFCC was smearing him on the matter and he joined 11 other entities in the suit. The court granted all the reliefs he sought. The powers of the EFCC to investigate was not among the issues he canvassed.
As FCT minister, Malam El-Rufai allocated plots in Abuja to more than 27,000 Nigerians and presided over a transparent process that sold government houses and earned the FG a whopping N32bn. No decent man would permit slurs on that stellar record
