So this is fascinating: a major corp client just decided not to renew me for a 4th year of D&I training because a group of their just-out-of-college, young white male hires got together and trashed my reviews for a seminar b/c I said "there is no such thing as reverse racism."
Notably, no mention was given of the fact that a young man of color approached me afterwards and told me he was underpaid compared to male colleagues, that a white ally aided him, and that I went to bat for his equal pay with the COO and got it.
(Lesson: white male Trumpism still has an anchor in young America and Wall Street, and young white men still feel entitled, in their irredeemable racism, to take down anyone fighting for equity.

Not that that's anything new.)

Some of you may not know that I gave birth to two kids in 14.5 months, at the ages of nearly 41 and 42. As any “older” mother would tell you, these kind of consecutive pregnancies are hell on the body at that age and on the mind.
I got post-partum depression after both births. Add to that that within two years of my youngest’s birth, my husband and I separated for the first time.

When we separated, I'd been the primary breadwinner in the relationship for 8 years, & I was on the verge of financial ruin.

I am not one to sow panic either, but if the CDC commentator had a conversation with her kids yesterday about how daily life was likely to be disrupted soon, I figured it was time to do the same for my kids last night, and that we need to KEEP WASHING OUR HANDS.
By the way, I found this article helpful. As the author said when I saw him post it, we have to have rational expectations for what *could* occur, and that doesn't include guns and off the grid.

Thread: I'm getting a lot of questions offline about what folks can be doing politically right now. Here are a few areas:
1. Donate, even small amounts to candidates you support, including folks running for US Senate. For example, Amy McGrath to flip Mitch McConnell's seat; /1
or Sara Gideon to flip Susan Collins' seat. Even $5 helps candidates b/c it all adds up.
2. Pick a cause that matters and donate and/or get involved. For example, find a chapter of Moms Demand Action for gun sense reform near you. It is an instant community of like-minded /2
people working to help pass common-sense gun reform laws. Or find another issue or cause that speaks to you.
3. If you don't want to volunteer for one candidate, sign up to register voters, especially in states that aren't already blue. Parts of VA, GA, NC, PA, TX, WI, MI, FL /3

One of the vagaries of our system of government is: no one is running against Mitch McConnell for the position of most powerful person in the Senate.

But if Amy McGrath wins in Kentucky, she'll be one of several junior Democratic Senators, and Mitch McConnell will be out.
If McGrath wins, Mitch isn't majority leader anymore. If the Republicans hold the majority they'll get to pick a new majority leader. But the Grim Reaper is no more. He doesn't just get knocked out of the top spot, he's gone.
It's weird, some of the ways our political system has evolved, particularly since it was designed by men who very soberly and somberly refused to design it with political parties in mind while they were choosing teams in their heads.
