Thing about Trumpism that kills my soul -- and we were warned about it, by @SarahKendzior and others, but it's different to be told it versus seeing it happen -- is how quickly normal changes.
We are already seeing people insist that his loyalty purge of the civil service is normal, that the weird thing is he waited so long to do it, as though we're still on the Spoils System where every president packs the government with cronies on day one.
And they justify it with things that seem sound on the surface like "A president needs people who will work with him and not against him." and "The honorable thing to do if they can't embrace his vision is to resign." and they call them "Obama holdovers" even if they're from Bush
And this is what worries me in the expansion of denaturalization because they will make the mallet sound like it's the thin end of the wedge and they will make stripping human beings of humanity sound like it's rational national interest and we'll debate details only.
