In late July 2019, my aunt was diagnosed with Stage 4 Adenocarcinoma of the Lung. By the time she knew something was wrong and sought medical care, it had spread, and was terminal.
She opted to begin treatment, in part to buy more time, and to at least say she put up a valiant fight.
The treatments made her so sick.
When I met VP Biden in October, he offered to put us in touch with his cancer initiative experts.
He meant it.
He followed up.
Unfortunately, cancer had other plans for the future.
Still, @JoeBiden reminded me, “There’s always hope”.

Four days later, I saw @JoeBiden again, and told him that she had lost her fight.
Tears in his eyes, he hugged me, and I was able to thank him for his kindness and compassion.
I told him he had already offered something far greater.
That we were going to be okay, because although cancer had taken her from us, he had given me back my hope.
Thank you, Mr. Vice President ❤️
