Diane Auer Jones, the Principal Deputy Under Secretary of the Ed Dept., said at a committee that advises the Ed. Dept. on college accreditation that this isn't the time to discuss the latest news articles. I guess that means this story is out? usatoday.com/story/news/edu…
"This is not a place to debate the merits of the most recent news article," she said. She argued it's unfair for accreditors to answer questions unrelated to the documents available for review. She added there was a process for members to raise concerns about recent events.

Diane Auer Jones does a victory lap on breaking the artificial distinction between regional and national agencies, congratulating WASC for taking the first step, saying they are not the easy accreditor, they are the innovative one #NACIQI
DAJ says @usedgov will send out a letter to states alerting them that where their laws rely on the regional distinction, it no longer exists. Cannot compel states to change their laws but can encourage it #NACIQI

Pre-accredited status is the same as accredited status, argues Jones. I'm wondering why there is a "pre-" status then...Accreditors only award pre-accredited status if they're "pretty darn sure" the institution can be awarded accredited status. #NACIQI

Serious questions must be raised about how Jane Sanders got a 72% salary increase over 6 yrs at Burlington College as well as how she funneled $100ks of tuition dollars to her daughter's and a Trustee's son's businesses:
As President of Burlington College, Jane Sanders quickly appointed Jonathan Leopold to the Board of Trustees. Leopold had served under Bernie Sanders as City Treasurer of Burlington, VT in the 1980s. He soon became CAO of the City of Burlington.
Leopold's tenure on Burlington College's Board of Trustees highlight some glaring ethical issues:

1) Why did Burlington College start supporting two brand new for-profit businesses owned by both Leopold's son Jesse Leopold and Jane Sanders' daughter Carina Driscoll in '09?

NEW: Docs from @SecretService show $254K in spending at Trump-owned properties in first 6 mos. of Trump @WhiteHouse. FOIA obtained via @PropOTP. This is different than how much the Secret Service incurs on protecting the president + family (annual budget for that is $750M).
Over 6-month period from Jan to June '17, nearly $170K was spent at Trump golf clubs, incl. Mar-a-Lago, more than $45K was spent at the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas and nearly $39K went to the Trump International Hotel in Washington. Reminder: @realDonaldTrump still owns his company.
$254K is far higher than a @USGAO estimate of Secret Service spending at Mar-a-Lago covering 4 trips in Feb and March 2017. (It said it spent just $35,750). But hard to break out #s by property. gao.gov/products/GAO-1…
