Buenos días from #NACIQI meeting! @TheToniFlores and I are here to let you know what's going on. Up next: Diane Auer Jones from @usedgov
@TheToniFlores @usedgov Jones highlights the elimination of the "artificial" distinction between regional and national accreditors, congratulates WASC for doing so. Jones doesn't think this will encourage institutions to go for the "easier" accreditor, but consumer advocates think otherwise. #NACIQI
Pre-accredited status is the same as accredited status, argues Jones. I'm wondering why there is a "pre-" status then...Accreditors only award pre-accredited status if they're "pretty darn sure" the institution can be awarded accredited status. #NACIQI
Jones gives update on NACIQI's student success subcommittee pilot. #NACIQI can keep this but cant bring new questions, bright lines, to this group and institutions.
And our tweet threads, news articles are out of the question for debate in NACIQI meeting because the latest headlines have nothing to do with the documents NACIQI is reviewing. @TheToniFlores and @claremccann 👀
@TheToniFlores @claremccann Commenter shares good point at #NACIQI: "A Failed experiment doesn’t mean broken test tubes, it means broken careers & lives." Remember that people participating in these approaches are REAL people! Argues there should be element of informed consent.
@TheToniFlores @claremccann DAJ on student achievement: It is important, and new regs make it clear that its an institutions determination ton what student achievement is.

We've seen time and time again that this can lead to some pretty low standards..

#NACIQI
@TheToniFlores @claremccann Update on implementation of new regs: DAJ says #NACIQI won't see agency with policies meeting new regs until 2021 bc accreditation is a process (that can now take 2 yrs under new regs).
@TheToniFlores @claremccann #NACIQI continues to ask about accreditor dashboards. FYI, former student representative shared strong concerns about these being scrapped educationdive.com/news/accredito…
@TheToniFlores @claremccann DAJ argues more about how bright lines are bad. Agencies felt pressure to adopt bright lines, like 60% pass/grad rate and worried that they wouldn't be recognized by #NACIQI. Agencies didn't like being pushed for higher standards, like 70 or 70% grad rates. 🤔
@TheToniFlores @claremccann #NACIQI mtg adjourned until the next one in July. Let's see what this meeting looks like next time once the new #accreditation regulations are in effect.
