Another THREAD. 1) A pet dog tested mildy positive. So, do I need to be afraid my pet is getting the virus. The answer to that is we do not know, but other than this one case there is no evidence yet. However, the virus seems to ACE2 receptors from all kinds of species.
2) It has been shown to enter cells expressing bat, swine, human and civet cat ACE2 expressing cells, but not mouse ACE 2 expressing cells ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/32015507. That doesn't mean the virus can infect those animals but it can at least take the first step.
3) We do not know about dog or cat ACE2 yet. This needs to be determined (modelling or wet lab studies). Even if it does we don't know if these animals are competent hosts that can get sick or spread the virus. But it would be a good idea to find that out.
4) While I don't know if somebody is currently looking at that, I am sure this question will be answered in the near future.
