IT IS HAPPENING. The Government are moving towards leaving the European Convention on Human Rights
There is no other interpretation for the UK's position other than they want to leave the door open for the UK to leave the European Convention on Human Rights. It has been obvious for a long time that this is on the agenda

I don’t know if I am just putting my head in the sand but I have consciously stopped checking the BBC news site as much as I usually do and am listen to more podcasts instead of news radio. The news is so stressful
... I am keeping myself informed and trying to respond proportionately but I’m just not sure how knowing how things are changing minute to minute is helping me! Everyone different I suppose
... in defence of the media and govt, it does seem that the kind of widespread behavioural change (even if just tweaking eg hand washing) requires a proper understand of the risks and there is a big risk here. But individuals have a right to tune out once they have the message!

We've just released the final report by @Alston_UNSR, the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme #poverty, on his visit to the #UK. The report is available here: undocs.org/A/HRC/41/39/Ad…. A few key takeaways:
Some have asked me why a UN expert on #poverty would visit the #UK. Unfortunately, although the UK is the world’s 5th largest economy, 14 million are in poverty, child poverty is rising & predicted to reach 40% by 2021, homelessness is up 60%, and food bank use has skyrocketed.
To understand #poverty in the #UK, you have to look at the massive disinvestment in social support since 2010: the end of a centralized social fund, changes to the ways benefits are capped & calculated that substantially reduce their value, the decimation of civil legal aid, etc.
