Today, I announce one man campaign to repeal FISA against American Citizens. 🇺🇸#RepealFISA
What some of my fellow Americans should know is when a #FISA is applied to an AMERICAN citizen, he or she becomes an #institutionalized #slave and #property with all constitutional rights and all protections removed as well as totally deprived of all civil liberties and privacy.
Intel officials abused their positions to discredit opposition to the Dem. Party, of which they were a part of with leaks to the media they control, they abused the public’s faith in their superior knowledge to vilify their domestic polit. enemies from behind secrecy’s shield.

🗣️Our new book is out today: “#CasaPound Italia: contemporary #Extreme #Right #Politics” co-written by @CaterinaFroio @SciencesPo_CEE Matteo Albanese, Giorgia Bulli and myself @CrexUiO, for @routledgebooks @FFRAFAction (thread 1/15)
shorturl.at/nSW19
@CaterinaFroio @SciencesPo_CEE @CrexUiO @routledgebooks @FFRAFAction The volume presents a theory of contemporary right-wing #extremism that helps understand how a fringe group like CPI has been successful in placing its ideas in public debates in #Italy. shorturl.at/nSW19 (2/15)
@CaterinaFroio @SciencesPo_CEE @CrexUiO @routledgebooks @FFRAFAction We argue that this type of success has to do with #hybridization, which we define as the blurring of five main aspects of ‘#extreme right politics’: #ideology, internal structure, #activism, #mobilization and #communication. #Branding

Thread. 2020: The Brave New World of (Faux) #Activism

(Financed by the profit generated by the most egregious corporations on the planet that are systematically destroying the very ecosystems supporting all life. $ funneled through tax-exempt foundations into NGOs)
It is quite incredible. Look at the messaging from the institutions set up to monetize nature (#NewDealForNature). Natural Capital Coalition, UNEP, etc. etc.

They are now drenched in emotive images of beautiful animals & our natural world.
Now, in comparison, look at the messaging from the dominant "environmental" NGOs such as Greenpeace, 350, Avaaz, etc. etc.

They are now drenched in images of tech & so-called renewable energies deemed "good" by populace. The natural world has been effectively buried by tech.

1) I'm pretty sure the following "revelation" will immediately enrage a lot of people, but if you can exert basic anger-management and read on, it will make sense. I don't identify as a #resister but rather as an #activist.
2) The two things are quite different. Resistance movements usually happen during extremely violent tyrannical rule and consist of several actions from infra-structure sabotage to underground clandestine sharing of information.
3) It usually brings together folks from different ideological approaches to "anti" whatever (anti-fascism, anti-nazism) and it is not uncontroversial.

Thread #Activism what we do & what inspires it
Did an interview this week about my activism - theatre activism & the #deadwomenwalking march to remember women killed in the uk by known men I wasn’t prepared for the impact the questions had on me
Asked what was my first memory of political awareness/activism I recalled being in a pub as a teenager & the bar maid had hair under her arms We saw it when she reached up for a glass above the bar My friend was disgusted- disgusted!
I couldn’t grasp why female body hair was so abhorrent to another woman & of course I was awakened to all the messages we get - bleach your moustache, shave your legs, wax your ‘down there’ It’s unnatural get rid of it! It’s dirty get rid of it!

This Sunday is the 33rd annual @AIDSWalkPhilly—here's a #thread about a different kind of #AIDS walk in #Philadelphia—the city's first candlelight AIDS vigil, in 1986.

#twitterstorians #everythinghasahistory

kywnewsradio.radio.com/articles/news/…
@AIDSWalkPhilly The first Candlelight Walk for #AIDS in #Philadelphia took place on September 25, 1986. Earlier that month, the Department of Public Health reported 479 cases of AIDS in the Philadelphia area, and 298 had died.

See video of the walk:

@AIDSWalkPhilly Of reported cases, 50% were African American—ten points higher than their share of the total #Philadelphia population. But #AIDS agencies were predominantly white, and rooted in the #Gayborhood, which was itself seen as a mostly white space.

It's been good these last few days to read some comradely critiques of #XR coming from various positions.

Here's an excellent thread from @XRLiberation which seems to be a group mostly within UK XR (rebellion.earth/2019/10/05/sta…)

This open letter from experienced #Paris activists who've been trying to work with XR there:

I finally forced myself to watch @ava’s #13th on @netflix. I know I am massively tardy to the party, but racial documentaries are hard for me. It was, of course, devastating, so I’m glad I’m grading at home today so I can process, seethe, mourn & completely avoid wypipo.
My first reaction was “Fuck, this [the systemic oppression of black people & destruction of black lives] is never going to end. Not until we upend every last piece of the existing systems.” Then I sat overwhelmed & crying bc the earth/humanity may not last long enough for that.
And let’s be clear, I read The New Jim Crow years ago (which is why I felt like I didn’t *need* to watch 13th), but watching the documentary tie these legacies to images/audio of #NotMyPresident brought it home in a new way emotionally for me rather than just intellectually.

"Why #SocialMovements Matter", a thread.

It's been a long time since I've written a whole #book in longhand. 1999 to be exact, under the trees in the Botanic Gardens @NBGIreland.

whysocialmovementsmatter.com, 30% off with code RLIJUNE18 Why Social Movements Matter book cover
My handwriting's got worse in the meantime, doing so much more by keyboard and screen. It's still a physically different experience, more thoughtful, more physically creative. There's a different kind of feedback as you see your writing change.
"Why Social Movements Matter" was an unintentional book. @GeoffreyPleyers and the remarkable @lecollege_em at @FondationMSH made it possible for me to spend a month just researching and writing - which is an incredible privilege.

An activist organization with ties to Korea suddenly entered a public elementary school in Ginowan, Okinawa for political activism. It was a weekday & the children had classes. The organization didn't have an appointment with the school.
They came to the school without an appointment and asked to see the school's shelter. Unfortunately the school let them in & allowed the group to make political statements at the school.
It was the vice principal who led them around.
The school claimed they tried to shield the students from the activist group but there has been massive amounts of criticism by Japanese people towards the public school and the Korean activists.

I don’t have all the words for it yet, but if you don’t have Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha (@brownstargirl)’s new book Care Work, you need to go buy it right now. Now. Especially if you are disabled or a person of color or a femme or all of the above. It is...exceptional.
It reminds me of the intensely political, personal, fierce, healing writing of 80s WOC feminists like Audre Lorde & Gloria Anzaldúa. This book is intellectually & emotionally powerful. I’m buying copies for friends. I’m so blown away, so moved—truly a game changing collection.

If one more white person I’ve tells me they tweeted about #RKelly before seeing my thread...

Yall missing the point. The point is a racial trend. The point is societal silence on black survivors.
If you weren’t part of that silence I wasn’t talking to you, but maybe you should talk to your friends who keep @-ing me. Come collect all your people in my mentions saying off the wall shit. Keep doing your work rather than asking me to give you praise for on top of my own work.
If white people continue to only do their social justice work so that black women will be nice to them or thank them or whatever; if white folks only want to do good if they are recognized & acknowledged for it with unconditional praise, we’re never going to get anywhere.

Short thread on how I got involved in #Activism - I have been an activist since I was 17 (1989) - I campaigned with EarthWatch Ireland about, 'The Greenhouse Effect' (now #ClimateChange) raw sewage / river pollution and recycling.
In 1994, I moved to London for work and joined @GreenpeaceUK as a volunteer working on #StopEsso campaign and #SaveorDelete an Ancient Forests campaign. In 2002, #Banksy worked with us to create a poster and I was in charge of sending them around the UK along with this stencil
First rule of stenciling - Don't have your name printed on it!

...as someone who has played a small part in that history, and who spends much of my time in feminist settings, I can tell you that the "feminist debate" regarding trans people is largely settled, as most contemporary feminist recognize that...

writing a new piece, which led me to thinking about this, so I thought I'd share: I'm a "generation X" person. this is not news, of course...
...but, as a young person (in my 20s), I identified as a Green (this was pre-Jill Stein awfulness). and most of my generational cohorts identified that or as anarchists...
...very few of us identified as socialists or communists, despite overlapping philosophies/goals. And it wasn't because we despised those ideologies per se...
