Conspiracy theories are bad not because they make your movement look foolish, but because they offer a shorthand and inaccurate analysis of the power dynamics they claim to unmask. A bad diagnosis is an obstacle to discerning an effective solution.
This wasn't exactly a subtweet...but it was a follow on from this thought on Tuesday after hearing too many people say "the media" or "the DNC" duped and manipulated millions of real human voters.
There is an entity called the DNC and it does have influence. (Worth noting that in 2018 its 2nd in command was Keith Ellison, a Sanders supporter.) And "the media" does shape the way the public perceives the world.
But these institutions, like soylent green, are people. They're not borgs comprised of brainwashed zombies who've undergone a mind meld to all think and act alike. Much like Putin is not some mastermind supergenius pulling the strings that control everyone in the world.
We all have an investment in making the Democratic Party and big media outlets better, keeping them accountable to the interests of the US public. Starting from the premise that they are sinister plots seeking our destruction does not further that goal, IMO.
Put more bluntly.
