DWARAKA or DWARAVATI means the 'city of Doors' finds mention in many scripture including Mahabharata,Harivansha,Shrimad Bhagvat Puran,Skanda Puran & Vishnu Puran.It also known as Kushasthali.
It is consider as one of the city of sacred Char Dham.

According to Srimad Bhagavatam when lord Krishna was ruling Mathura,the kingdom was repeatedly attacked by Jarasandha the king of Magaha around 17 times but he lost everytime to Krishna. ShriKrishna then decided to migrate a new city on the western cost of to save his Yadava Clan
Lord krishna invited Vishshwakarma ,the devine architec to construct the city. Shri Krishna worshiped Samudra Deva and reclaimed 12 Yojana land from sea near the westen cost of Saurastra .Vishwakarma then built the magnificent city of Dwaraka.
Later krishna shifted his capital
near the bank of river Gomati.
According to Garudapurana Dwaraka is one of the seven ancient cities that are believed to be the land of Nirvana.

Vyasadeva has described Dwaraka in great detail & call it 'A city so golden that it casts its radiance on ocean for miles around it.' The city extended over 104km

The Harivamsa contain a reference
which says that every citizen of Dwarka should carry a three-headed mudra or seal as mark of identification

And it is the duty of guard to see & none without a seal is allowed to enter.
The famous Dwarakadhish temple dedicated to Krishna, the Lord of Dwaraka also called Jagat Mandir was built by Vajranabha, grandson of Lord Krishna over the place where Krishna resided.

Dwaraka temple is also enumerated among the108 Divya Desam(sacred place where Vishnu resides)
The temple as we see in present structure was built in15th-16th century. It is a 5 storey structure supported by 72 pillar
The flag of temple can be visible from 10km distance
