The “Deep State” conspiracy is just a reiteration of the New World Order conspiracy theory which was a reiteration and evolution of the anti-Semitic Protocols of the Elders of Zion conspiracy theory.

The conspiracy narrative is that shadowy figures are manipulating world events, undermining national affairs, and engaging in subterfuge against white supremacy. To do so they manipulate armies of minorities to fight that supremacy.

I’ve written about it previously, but these conspiracies have merged with white evangelicalism, beginning in the 1950’s/1960’s, particularly as the Civil Rights Movement gained purchase.

Republicans used the New World Order / white identity evangelicalism to their advantage, supporting anti-government paranoia in the 1990’s, essentially merging with the NRA and burgeoning Patriot Militia Movement. It was a political strategy that has endangered all of us. 4/
Republicans accepting that conspiracy effectively told whites that they were at war with corrupt, traitorous politicians and dangerous hordes of criminal minorities. It’s the underlying and often obvious mindset of Trumpism, which is apocalyptic white supremacy. 5/
It has always been a political and economic strategy, these conspiracy theories. They know they’re manipulations. The Times or any other paper even paying so much as lip service to the Deep State or New World Order literally means lives are at risk. 6/
There are Trumpists and believers of these conspiracy theories that believe they’re in an invisible war. It’s cost lives. It’s inspired fascist revolution plots. It’s completely infected our politics and media. It’s an absolute scourge and has to be rejected in totality. 7/7
Oh. And it’s important to note these nationalist, white identity conspiracy theories enable disinformation and propaganda attacks by Russia. Putin and his technologists weaponize this madness and their scholarship says it explicitly. It’s a literal entry point for fascism. 8/9
Fascist and authoritarian movements use conspiracy theories to radicalize and pervert society by playing on their prejudices and scapegoating the populations wrongly implicated instead of addressing actual problems. It has ALWAYS been the move and we’re watching it now. 9/9
