THREAD. We analysed UK press coverage of various UK foreign, military and intelligence policies.

Here are some of our findings in Part One on how the UK press is misinforming the public and failing to report key issues.

1/ UK press has failed to report properly on GCHQ’s covert online action programme - JTRIG - revealed by E.Snowden in 2014. An example of how inconvenient truths are buried by the ‘mainstream’ media bit.ly/39C1JUX

2/ Former OPCW director Jose Bustani has noted “irregular behaviour in the OPCW investigation” of alleged Syria chemical attack in Douma and “doubts and suspicions” on the claim. His comments are reported in only one press outlet – Mail on Sunday. bit.ly/39C1JUX

3/ Declassified recently examined two UK military support programmes in Saudi Arabia - all from open source information. These programmes have been ignored by UK mainstream “journalists”, who do not seem interested in informing the public. bit.ly/39C1JUX

4/ Britain’s navy has conducted exercises with Israel’s and UK provides military training to Israeli officers as part of unprecedented military cooperation. This is not being reported by the UK press. bit.ly/39C1JUX

5/ On 29 October, UN special rapporteur Nils Melzer wrote to the UK government urging it to investigate officials for possible “criminal conduct” in their stance towards Julian Assange. This has not been reported by the UK press. bit.ly/39C1JUX

6/ The term “rules-based international order” is mentioned in 339 UK press articles in last 5 years. The press claims the UK as a supporter while enemies Russia/Iran are demonised as challengers. Press reporting follows the state. bit.ly/39C1JUX

7/ The UK press has overwhelmingly failed to report that the war in Yemen is also a *British* war. It has only mentioned once, as far as can be seen, the most significant independent analysis of the extent of the UK role in it. bit.ly/39C1JUX
