Unbelievable. Johnson appoints worst minister in recent history to chair of Intelligence committee. Even the Sun can’t stomach it. His ‘first task will be to publish a report on Russia’s influence..which Boris suppressed in run-up to the general election’

I mean when you’ve got the Sun’s political editor stating as fact that PM suppressed crucial intelligence report & has now parachuted in Britain’s most feckless man to oversee the cover-up, you know you’re strange uncharted waters.

Ok, am genuinely interested in theories why. This is *the* plum backbench appointment. And it requires total loyalty to Johnson & Cummings. The first job - according to Sun’s political editor! - is to supervise the cover-up of the cover-up. So why Grayling?
Is it relevant that Grayling was Lord President of the Privy Council during EUref?? And that as such he would have seen intelligence materials related to, say...possible Russian interference?

Two frontline healthcare workers - A&E doctor & nurse - have got in touch with me in last 24 hours alarmed at lack of protective equipment. They say staff exposed to huge risks which will threaten whole system if they get ill
A&E doctor says policy of not testing medical staff even after exposure or displaying symptoms poses huge danger not just to entire medical community but everyone they are in contact with
There is no protective clothing for A&E staff treating walk-in cases. Patients presenting with, say, ankle pain are coughing over staff who are not even wearing basic protection. Staff worried to speak out publicly for fear of repercussions.

The govt has taken zero steps to warn elderly & at risk. It really is up to all of us to urge them to stay home & keep safe. This may focus the mind. Latest Italian guidelines on how to allocate ICU beds. ‘It may be necessary to place an age limit on entry’
I have no insight into whether or not this is correct. If it is & this government believes this is the way to communicate crucial public health info, we should be very very worried

Seriously @Peston. ‘Senior govt source’?? And isn’t this the actual headline: ‘Government fails to advise elderly & at risk to keep themselves safe ahead of a secret plan it refuses to make public...
