The govt has taken zero steps to warn elderly & at risk. It really is up to all of us to urge them to stay home & keep safe. This may focus the mind. Latest Italian guidelines on how to allocate ICU beds. ‘It may be necessary to place an age limit on entry’
I have no insight into whether or not this is correct. If it is & this government believes this is the way to communicate crucial public health info, we should be very very worried

Seriously @Peston. ‘Senior govt source’?? And isn’t this the actual headline: ‘Government fails to advise elderly & at risk to keep themselves safe ahead of a secret plan it refuses to make public...
‘The secret plan was leaked to political journalists on Saturday night in order to deflect criticism that it is not doing enough but avoiding the need for attribution or respond to questions...

If you are an MP, please take seriously your duty to scrutinise this bill today. We need to respond to this emergency. But we also need to carefully balance the threat to our civil rights from sweeping new powers to arrest, detain, surveil for next 2 years

Why is it for 2 years? The government is not revealing information suggesting it believes this crisis will last 2 years. Why the discrepancy? And if it's not telling us stuff now, this bill will give it powers to tell us not much more stuff in the future.
I'm v concerned about how data will be used. What data will not be revealed to us - as is happening now. And what data will be taken from us - to surveil & monitor us. I'm keeping this v v measured but if you've followed me for last 3 years, you'll know the basis for my concerns

This bill will pass in next couple of days. Emergency powers to arrest & detain. Hugely expanded powers for govt for next 2 years. A lot about "national security". Nothing about data. But as @iandunt points out, it doesn't mean that it's not there..

The decisions being made by govt right now are being made in darkness. Scientists don't have access to the data. There is no scrutiny, oversight or peer review. Nobody knows if there are errors, or biases, or what "behavioural" models are being used.

The govt MUST release data/models/everything now. We need total transparency. Science is not science unless it's open to scrutiny. It is STILL not following @who advice. It is not testing. WHY?
The underlying data *MUST* be made public.

@who says test, test, test.

UK govt still not testing. Even frontline NHS staff exposed to virus/w' symptoms. Based on what data??

Imperial paper shows school closure wd reduce numbers. Govt says not. Where is the data??
Believe me when I say to you, you cannot trust this government to be open & transparent with data. That you cannot expect it to respect norms or even the law.

Trust can *only* come from transparency.

1- Here in Europe we are in lock-down.
France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Belgium, Portugal, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland...etc

2- Some countries and people deal with it differently.

3- In Spain ppl are panic buying. Though everyday supermarkets are empty
4- Next day at 9am its all back up and restocked @asda etc are doing a wonderful job.

5- Spanish taxis drivers have associated and are volunteering to drive around freely paramedics, doctors, nurses, etc.

6-In Slovakia, people with hotels/pensions/ etc are giving free
7-Accommodation to all first responders, including police, fire brigade, etc.

8- @politico has this wonderful tracker if you want to check how #coronavirus is developing in the Old Continent.

1. At work:
✅If you're in a position of leadership, get on the same page with the rest of leadership
✅Know your institution's policies, collate them in 1 place, disseminate to employees
✅Be proactive in asking folks how they are. What ? do they have? If you don't know, say so
✅Amidst all the physical preparedness, don't forget to check on their mental and emotional health.

We are all scared. Uncertain of each coming day. Of each coming hour.

Don't assume when folks are quiet that they are not scare, confused, or just need a little comfort.

A group of my friends asked me for advice on preparing for #coronavirus. I emailed them:
- You do not need to be scared for your kids.
- You DO need to be scared for the old people in your lives.

Everything we have learned so far is that the disease is far more dangerous to older adults than any other group.
2/
Many illnesses present differently in older adults than in younger adults. While at this point, we don’t know specifics about COVID, common features of other respiratory illnesses are:
-Malaise
-Orthostasis
-Delirium
-Tachypnea
