It’s here in Cincinnati. You do not need to wait for orders or cancellations to do the right thing, which is to STAY HOME. A few days ago, we were told to assume it’s in your community unless told otherwise. Act accordingly. wlwt.com/amp/article/uc…
Unless you are saving lives, or keeping our basic living systems up and running, or need ER medical treatment, you have no reason to be out.
We are on a sinking ship with not enough lifeboats. The only question is whether we can slow the ship’s sinking and get as many safely to shore as possible.

Community spread is in Ohio, with an estimated 1% of our population infected. Additionally, one kid’s school is closed to to potential exposure. Here are steps we’re taking at my house to help flatten the curve:
We’ve elected to keep our pre-schooler home (I realize this is a luxury—but if you have it, exercise it).
We’ve elected to keep our oldest home on Monday even if school is open. I’ve talked to her teacher and will get the learning packets digitally.

And this is why governors are going to have to implement what will seem like extreme measures. Here in Ohio, there is community spread with an estimated 1% or 100K infected. Without knowing exact numbers, we have to anticipate this being beyond Ohio's capacity in days.
If even 10% of those 100K patients end up needing the ICU (reminder, in China the rate was 20-25%), it's likely that's already beyond our capacity. The US only has around 90K ICU beds for the whole entire country.
This is why DeWine and Fauci have been warning that it's going to get bad. This is why Dr. Acton (OH dept of health) said that in a week, it will seem like a different world.

Even today, in 2019 I continue to see gross generalizations and characterizations of the ‘online video gamer’ (OVG) based on stereotypes and conjecture. Let’s get to the truth of it *cracks knuckles* (a thread)
The stereotypical OVG is a socially inept, obsessed, reclusive, (white) male. This characterization is shared with a number of other groups too, suggesting it reflects a set of behaviors and concerns common to a range of groups (e.g., DnD players, engineers)
Indeed, research has confirmed similarities in stereotypic content between OVGs and other groups (including other kinds of gaming groups). Notably, the characteristic of social ineptitude, is not a distinctive to OVGs , questioning the unique role that CMC plays in these spaces.

Here is how I ruined a fruit for myself. I’m in Nagpur. This is an orange farm and this is an orange tree. India gets its largest supply of oranges from here. National Research Center for Citrus says a mature orange tree on an average consumes 40 liters of water per day.
It takes 4 years for an orange tree to bear fruit. If the water needs are met adequately then each tree produces 20 kilograms of fruit. So each orange that you eat takes about 4300 liters to grow.
There. If Maharashtra is running out of water then maybe, just maybe this could be one of the reasons. If I ever eat an orange again, I’ll know at what cost. #water #crisis

I see John #McDonnell in Sunday Times repeating claim that #renationalisation of water etc will have no net cost because gov't will be acquiring an asset to offset increase in debt. This isn't completely daft, but (you knew they'd be a but)... (1/2)
... it assumes i) renationalised assets keep their value (would they, if water is run by the GMB?), and ii) there is no other collateral damage (John McDonnell's plan to pay far less than market value would hit investor confidence hard). (2/2)

Happy Monday! I'm going to share something I've learned, especially for bar and restaurant operators who might be worried about a decline in alcohol sales due to reported changes in Americans' drinking behavior. (Please note that these learnings are simply anecdotal for now.)
The majority of non-alc beverages aren't taking share from cocktails, they're taking share from *water* sales.
If you don't have a good NA option, the customer who has made a decision not to consume alcohol that night isn't likely to say, "Okay, then, I'll have a beer." That customer will likely ask for tap water. Or maybe a bottle of sparkling water.
