All this waiting around for tests while still at home is the worst possible way to contain a virus, unless every family member is totally isolated.

To detect a simple positive result, you can go in so many directions.
If the hardware is the bottleneck, try pooling samples - 5:1, 10:1, depending on predicted rate of positive results - if pooled sample has +, then run each individually.
Use pooling for lower-probability and/or asymptomatic exposure-based cases. Or run straight PCR, use different probes, and multiplex on sequencers.
but I doubt it.
And, to me, it just seems stupid and shortsighted.
