Today I sat in on the teleconference from Alberta Education with Dr Hinshaw. First off, I am grateful for the expertise of our health care professionals at this time. I have a major concern, echoed by many of colleagues, regarding the guidelines that were released yesterday. /1
How will government and school boards ensure that the supplies and custodial staff needed to implement these measures be in place? School boards must guarantee the safety of all people in schools, it's in the Education Act. Will government release more funds to cover this? /2
Teachers are busy, their classes are busy places. They need assistance if schools are to remain open. Government and school boards MUST ensure schools have the help they need, hire extra staff, secure supplies (not meaning make teachers buy it themselves). /3
We are in unprecedented times and things are changing rapidly. I appreciate the medical expert's advice, but I also echo my colleagues genuine concerns for their safety and their students' safety. These concerns must be address by government immediately. /4 @albertateachers
