1/
1) Record & watch yourself teaching📽️Consider:
- lighting, sound, video quality
- font size
- background distractions (pets, clutter)
- body language / movement that doesn't translate well to camera
2) Sharing your screen? 🖥️
- mirror your learner's environment
- disable notifications and/or set up an separate account on your laptop for teaching
- consider your background image & desktop files
- increase the size/visibility of your mouse pointer (bit.ly/2TTqqqc)
3) Make it interactive! 🗨️
- Zoom breakout rooms to stimulate group discussions (zoom.us)
- Etherpad or Google Docs for shared note taking (etherpad.org)
- Socrative for interactive formative assessments (socrative.com)
4) Set norms for interactions 👩🏻‍💻
- have a Code of Conduct
- set expectations around video/audio sharing w/learners *ahead of time*
- keep learners engaged w/ frequent opportunities for interaction
- apply rules to ensure equal opportunities for all learners to participate
5) If at all possible, have a helper! 👀An extra set of eyes is useful for:
- moderating the chat
- managing questions
- sharing links
- administering formative assessments
- creating breakout rooms
- monitoring technical issues
6) Ask for feedback 👩🏻‍🏫
- consider using Google Forms to create virtual minute cards (bit.ly/2QedzwI)
- use questions to prompt specific feedback ("What technical issues need to be addressed?" or "How could the online presentation of the material be improved?")
7) Other practical considerations 🤔
- ask students to mute mics to avoid background noise
- encourage students to move around during short breaks
- allow extra time for solving technical issues
- consider accessibility issues prompted by a transition to an online classroom
8) As much as possible, enjoy this opportunity to learn a new skill! 🙌🏻
