There's a very interesting (and surprising) problem concerning transparency with the Rajya Sabha.

Let me explain:

So the RS has 2 kinds of members:

(a) those elected from states and

(b) those directly nominated by the President

(1/4)
Those that contest RS elections from states have to submit their assets declaration Form 26 affidavit.

However, no such requirement applies to those that are directly nominated (since there's no questions of voters/their "need to know")

(2/4)
Upon election, however, every member of the RS has to submit their assets and liabilities within 90 days of taking oath to the Rajya Sabha through a Form-1

The catch? Completed Form-1 of candidates is NOT available publicly on the RS website.

I've filed an RTI, therefore, asking for the asset and liabilities declarations of the current nominated members of the Rajya Sabha.

Wanna see if/how soon they furnish it. These details don't interest me right now BUT...

It'll be important once Ranjan Gogoi takes oath :)
