NIC has responded to my RTI on the Assam NRC data that disappeared off the website.

It says that while the Assam NRC website is hosted by NIC, the actual data isn’t.

So NIC hosts the Assam NRC webpage but the final NRC list is stored by a 3rd party somewhere else.

This is incredibly bizarre considering NIC - a govt. entity - has the necessary server space & infra to host the entire final NRC list.

That’d have also ensured the integrity & confidentiality of the data.

Why did the Assam NRC office give this to a 3rd party?

Assam NRC website is hosted by NIC. After the contract with Wipro expired last year, the final list could’ve been hosted on NIC servers.

Why was a 3rd party kept involved after that? What’s the shocking logic behind letting NIC host the actual site but data with someone else?
