NEW: A White House source tells me Trump administration is looking at shutting down the southern AND northern borders to undocumented immigrants, asylum seekers, and other foreigners attempting to enter U.S. from Mexico and Canada illegally. Canadian nationals would be exempt.
My source said plan being discussed does not apply to U.S. citizens, green-card holders, ppl w/ legal right to be in U.S. including ppl w/ work permits. It would not apply to goods or trade. The administration hopes to make an announcement soon and expects a court battle.
Border Patrol, under proposed change, would pick people up immediately and return them to Mexico or Canada if they are undocumented or seeking asylum. They would not be held for any length of time in an American facility bc WH thinks that is public health risk bc of coronavirus.
