Just doing some digging. #Pain is extremely nuanced. And the approach should also. W my kids #health & #pain there has been continued lack of knowledge, assumptions, & unwillingness to understand.

Fantastic presentation by Sophie Weeks of @polareducators at #ASSW2023 that made me think about how to communicate across knowledge systems🧵 #Arctic #Indigenous #IndigenousKnowledge #bridging #traslating #Westernscience #policymakers
with different epistemologies, ways of knowing, ontologies, understandings of nature and human existence, and axiologies, values, value judgements, and ethics.
Using #art to demonstrate that even working within one knowledge system has translation issues when shifting mediums from drawing to speaking or reading. The drawing demonstrated that objectivity is in fact a myth, having scientists all draw the same thing can demonstrate that.

If you aren't tuning in yet to @VigilForHD16 introducing a phenomenal bill at #colorado #legislativesession ✨HB23-1101 - Ozone Season Transit Grant Program Flexibility ✨ #CleanAir #publictransit #ClimateJustice is important

This mornings rant is about #paidfamilyleave in Colorado & how #voters overwhelmingly passed FAMLI

[& employers can now register for CO’s new program finally; employees max 12 weeks of paid leave a yr + 4 additional wks for #pregnancy or #childbirth complications]

#copolitics
Let’s get 1st thing straight - this 🧵 is no insight into the near 15 yrs #advocates fought for #paidfamilyleave at the CO state Capitol before #voters passed it on the #ballot

I, like many folks - came into the advocacy for #FAMLI yrs after lots of fight. Grateful to have it
Many of us worked on the #ballotmeasure in 2020 & #voters approved the program by 57% of the vote ✨ the amount of barriers set in place to #advocate for #paidfamilyleave & #pass it & then #implement it - have been eye opening 👁 to say the least. #copilitics

Thread "How to argue in court" - an easy to understand explanation to day to day Court Language.

1) First learn, "What is a Statement and how to make a statement to open an argument in a court.

a) "Defendant is fraud" This is your opinion. This is not

#lawyers #lawstudents
2/ a Statement for purpose of argument.

b) "Defendant has cheated me." This is again, your opinion. This is not a Statement for purpose of argument.

c) "Defendant cheated me of 50 lakh rupees by giving promise of giving a flat". This can do. The Judge

#lawyers #lawstudebt
3/ can understand what is your problem.

Judge can then ask you, "Why do you say so? What is your basis for saying so?"

Now here you are supposed to answer with some evidence (documents or other things) from which it is obvious that you might be speaking truth.

1/🧵 Why is COVID hospitalization like 2X sticks of dynamite 🧨?

A thread on the ICU portion… #PICS + #LongCOVID.

Prevent this w 3 steps:
📌Avoid #COVID by Vax & Mask
📌Avoid severe COVID by Paxlovid & Monoclonal Ab
📌👇 read here about PICS & how to reduce injury in the ICU
2/ Here’s what you must know if you get too sick & land in an ICU.

History Lesson 📝
In the past, too many decisions in #CriticalCare were guided by fear. We oversedated patients for too long out of worry they might self-extubate & pull off restraints.

That’s happening again 🤮
3/ We kept patients immobilized due to an overly conservative approach to fall prevention that precluded us from attempting to walk them early. We kept families away from patients, treating loved ones as visitors rather than members of the healing plan.

That’s happening again.

During the course of time the innovation and its #ethos has been shaped, directed and scaled-up by marginalised folks with psychosocial disabilities allowing many others like them to frame their #unique pathways and aspirations to well-being with #agency and #autonomy.

@mike_yung @PrairieTheatre @Brittan60572844 Rant incoming. This is exactly why I'm flipping pissed there's no attention on this b/c nearly everyone is assuming the wrong narrative. Press & politics aren't picking it up because they're AFRAID of it being an #LGBTQ+/#trans issue w/o looking past it & seeing the REAL story.
@mike_yung @PrairieTheatre @Brittan60572844 Cyberbullying has infected our community. These users carry very far-right beliefs w/ a very specific agenda: dump Trudeau, dump Singh, cancel The Social, praise Don Cherry, celebrate Adam Skelly (now) & TARGET OUR COMMUNITY. It's incredibly linear, systemic & super predictable.
@mike_yung @PrairieTheatre @Brittan60572844 Considering the political leanings and the fact that it's oh-so-coincidental that OUR community is getting heat, especially yours truly, I struggle to not imagine DW blowing a dog whistle especially considering his COVID beliefs & political leanings, including w/ Gary Marshall.

Hear, hear

As a confident WOC willing to enter male dominated, non-diverse spaces (women >20% of my class & rare in tech)

I hear from men and women:
I take up too much space, I talk too much, etc, etc.

If invited 6x to podcasts in 2019, is that "too much"?
Who decides?
In the marketplace of ideas, lack of women o BIPOC in a space, what is the metric of too much/little? A recent thread on leadership coaching specific to #WIM: importance of having manners if one wants a seat at the table

How about results as the metric?

I'm successful as an advocate, having been a Health Advocate of the Year in 2012 by @Drsforamerica in 2012. Part of being an advocate is bringing issues to the forefront that may not be the priority of decision makers. One communicates on it (albeit, at times, relentlessly)

Another great episode in this series.

Important reflections on the contrast between workplaces that support and value the well being of the staff within them, and those that don't.

Must watch for leaders within #mentalhealth services who wish to create compassion cultures.

1/
1:55 - 3:40

Great description of "homely" team where the health of staff was prioritised by the manager and colleagues "had each others' backs".

2/
4:05 - 4:15

Contrasted with a workplace where in response to a toxic workplace culture she was "given the message" that "their was something wrong me", creating a "deep sense of shame".

February 29 (the rarest day) is #RareDiseaseDay and this matters a great deal. It matters to me and my family, but also to millions of others who have stories similar to ours. If you follow me on @Twitter, you probably know some of my story.
I don’t want to bore you by telling it again, but I do want to talk a bit about what I’ve learned since my #diagnosis and since becoming a #RareDisease #advocate.
The first thing I learned was that even though it was a relief to have a diagnosis...(i.e. some sort of validation that there was a reason I didn’t feel well my whole life), it was really really hard to come to terms with having this new label.

As someone who’s experienced extreme trauma
As someone who been abused
As someone who’s been to prison
As someone who’s tried taking their own life
As someone who’s battled with mental health issues for many years

As someone who used to be ashamed to be that person in care
As someone who somewhat still blames themselves for being in care
As someone who was separated from siblings due to being in care

I have a grievance regarding my mom's care during her bout w/#sepsis. #dementia

At the end of October 2019, my husband & I awoke to find mom's breathing labored, & her mumbling to let her sleep. We let her rest. A fever spiked within the hour, & suddenly she became deathly ill.
She was twitching, sweating profusely, in full rigors, & unable to sit up/speak well. She looked TERRIFIED. I thought she had a stroke. Turns out, it was a high fever from an infected gallbladder. She landed in the #ICU. ALL her vitals were jumping around. It was horrible.
She landed in the ER & eventually the ICU. Turns out she had #sepsis from the infected gall bladder. The ICU's 1st step? Changing her meds around INSTANTLY. Specifically they rescinded ALL #opioids abruptly. After over a decade on them, she was thrown into acute withdrawal in ICU
