Right now the US oil industry is under attack from the Russians. Yes, the Russians. Why?

In December we passed the National Defense Authorization Act for 2020. Sanctions were included in the Act to punish any company that helped the Russians complete the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
Putin's pissed and decided to retaliate against us by ramping up oil production just when demand was dropping bc of the Coronavirus. More supply, less demand: that means oil prices get slaughtered.
When oil prices get slaughtered, it threatens our shale & oil exploration industries. Those industries are in big trouble. Bonds issued by the companies could default. Stocks are approaching zero. Pension funds owning the bonds may need to be bailed out. Seniors are getting hurt.
Who's freaking idea was it to place sanctions on any company that helped the Russians complete Nord Stream 2 pipeline? Watch this very long video clip. It appears our entire Congress was too smart by half & didn't think through how Putin might retaliate.
