Something concerns me about some activities in the Labor party, particularly in the way they reflect on the Government. The issue I am particularly concerned with is the deliberate infection of children in schools. What do I mean by "deliberate"? ..2
The Gov't plans to keep school open in conditions under which are large number of children are certain to be infected. I'm sure the members of the Gov't are familiar enough with the care of children to know that infected children will unintentionally infect their parents.../3
If not directly, through the washing of their clothes, dishes etc; and, in extended families, infect the grandparents. Of course, in very wealthy families the children may be in a boarding school, or may be cared for by domestic staff.../4
In which case, the very wealthy parents & grand parents may escape infection. Let's start with the children. The effects of SARS-II on children are not well understood; the oft repeated claim that they are "resistant" or "immune" is either dubious or in error.../5
The long term effects are completely unknown. No parent would deliberately infect their own children with a virus that is known to pathogenic in humans; and no ethics committee would allow it in a clinical trial. But that is what our Gov't is doing.../6
And when you get to the parents & g.parents the government intends to infect indirectly, it is very clear that many will die and many will be rendered respiratory cripples. Which is why almost no other country is following our Gov't's plan.../7
And naturally that is why the plan has come in for a lot of criticism. In response to this, the PM has claimed this is the advice of (unnamed) "scientists" or the CMO, who is a doctor.../8
The odd thing about this is both scientists and doctors are used to having their opinions challenged. That is literally how science works, and for doctors, there is always the second opinion, or the ultimate opinion of the pathologist to contend with.../9
So this anonymity, and refusal/inability to justify a very odd, and at face value dangerous, plan seems very strange - particularly in what is supposed to be a democracy. Which brings me to the point of this thread: .../10
Today, it become clear that the leader of the opposition had instructed his party not to challenge the very odd plan of the CMO, presumably not because he's a doctor (we often have to explain our actions) but because he is a political appointment.../11
And as I understand it, only a few members of the opposition decoded to oppose this very odd plan by a political appointment. Which brings me to the question: If the opposition are not even prepared to defend the public's health and lives, what exactly are they there for?
