It's sad the California Capitol press corps has been hollowed out by years of newspaper cuts, b/c we could really use a well-sourced ticktock on wtf is going on inside the Newsom administration's COVID-19 response.
Like, he repeatedly issues executive orders whose text is at odds with how he describes those same executive orders in his press briefings. Why? What's going on inside his operation?
Why does he name-check Elon Musk every. Single. Time.?
What's holding him back from moving more aggressively to protect tenants, house homeless people, draw down the prison population? (These are all things he *says* he wants to do)
Is it an ideology problem? A lobbying/political influence problem? A competency/bureaucratic capacity problem?
What's he having to do to stay on the Trump administration's good side and get that hospital ship and those field hospitals? (Aside from effusively praising Trump in public?)
Like, it's a telling feature our media system that we have more insight into how the NYC mayor's COVID-19 response operation is (not) working than we do into what's happening in the admininistration that runs the world's fifth-largest economy. politico.com/states/new-yor…
