The German Air Force Luftwaffe is transporting in an Airbus A400M 2 French citizens requiring intensive care from Strasbourg 🇫🇷 to the German army hospital in Ulm🇩🇪
The A400M started from Aug 2018 as a flying intensive care unit, as a so-called "Intensive Care Aeromedical Evacuation" ( ICAE). This is available 24 hours a day for medical evacuation. Up to six patients can be medically cared for in the air.
After this first ICAE Intensive Care Aeromedical Evacuation configuration of the A400M, a total of 4 sets of this type will be available. The 11-person medical team on board can care for 2 ICU patient, 2 patients in the Intermediate Care category & another 2 in the Low Care level
"But we would also fly for a single patient if necessary"👍😲👏 they say. The main task of the medical crew on board is to stabilize the patients during the flight and to intervene if their condition worsens.
There are special beds for intensive care patients, medical devices and systems, medicines and bandages on board. The equipment of the flying intensive care unit corresponds to the current state of the art.
The French patients are on board A400M is on the way to Stuttgart. Then they will continue to the Ulm Bundeswehr Hospital.
