At the top of a hill in Mount Airy, MD there's a nursing home named Pleasant View. My mom started and ended her nursing career there. I have years and years of Pleasant View memories. Now I see the nursing home on the news for the worst possible reason.
The nursing home is in crisis. 77 of Pleasant View's 95 residents have tested positive for Covid-19. So far two residents have died. Others have been hospitalized. Nursing home workers, those who haven't tested positive yet, are fighting to save the rest.
When President Trump was recorded yesterday telling governors, including Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, "I haven't heard about testing in weeks," I thought about Pleasant View, and the residents who got sick in recent days.
Rebecca Travels, the nursing home's administrator, told the @BaltimoreSun that "she had wanted to preemptively test staff and residents" earlier this month, "but they didn't meet criteria for testing," i.e. travel or contact with a confirmed positive case. baltimoresun.com/coronavirus/bs…
The first two residents "were tested by private labs and the results were not available for five or six days," per the Sun. Once THEY tested positive, the state lab got involved and confirmed dozens of other infections in about a day. Think about what happened during that week.
"I haven't heard anything about testing being a problem," Trump told the governors yesterday.

Then ask the residents and nurses at Pleasant View. They'll tell you about the problems. They're just an hour up the road from the White House.
Pleasant View update: "Carroll County officials on Friday acknowledged a sixth resident from Pleasant View Nursing Home in Mount Airy had died, and said six additional staff members had tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the total to 24." baltimoresun.com/coronavirus/cc…
