#HusayniTihrani claimed a link through Tabatabai and Haddad to an esoteric order of Sufi initiation that reached back to the 18th century and is sometimes called the ‘ethical school of Najaf’ 5/
Others have described this school as a #Shii offshoot of the #Qadiriyya because of their espousal of the #Zikr_e_Yunusi or, as Gramlich suggests, the Hujjat Ali Shah branch of the #Nimatullahi order 6/
Hiding such affiliations makes sense with a #ShiiHawza that has been since the later #Safavid period hostile to #Sufi orders 7/

This #Mashhad based conflict with the #Tafkikis is an important element of the debate on philosophy and mysticism in the #hawza which is ongoing especially for last 20 years such as this dispute between Nasiri and Gharaviyan 11/
Vakili has also written a biography of Shahid I (Ibn Makki al-Jizzini 1334-1385) describing him as a mystic, another work on #Tusi and the debate on monism, as well as aspects of #MullaSadra and defending Sufism against fake hadith in condemnation 12/
Vakili clearly represents this phenomenon of the popularity and charisma associated with mystical teaching - but unlike many of these who align themselves with the official political theology of the Iranian state he also shows a sympathy for #refomists such as #Soroush 13/
This may be a case of hedging his bets or differentiating his product from #HusayniTihrani 14/
