1) B.C. made this critical, life-saving change to staffing in #LongTermCare on Mar. 31.

@AndrewRankinCB@nsgov took 2 weeks to enact another PHAC guideline to limit nursing home workers from working at multiple LTC facilities. That #COVID19NS thechronicleherald.ca/news/ns-govern…
2) policy came into effect in Nova Scotia on April 23.

(In early April, many Nova Scotians were asking why NS wasn’t adopting the BC model, which included ensuring our #HealthcareHeroes were giving FT hrs at 1 facility. #nspoli
3) As early as March 13, Nova Scotia healthcare unions were united in their call to @nshealth for PPE’s - #N95masks specifically - for all frontline workers.

Those calls were ignored.

4) On April 13, when the Prez of NS’s largest union, @JMACL3AN, raised the staffing issue, @StephenMcNeil chastised him, saying, “Now is not the time to discuss staffing models.”

@StrangRobert surprised many by joining the union-bashing

5) Nova Scotians could be forgiven for thinking that Stephen McNeil’s seven years of anti-union bias - punctuated by seven different pieces of legislative attacks on public sector workers - had somehow rubbed off on our Chief Medical Officer of Health.
6) In @HfxExaminer that same week, El Jones called McNeil’s hypocrisy on protecting #healthcareworkers sharply into question:

McNeil, of course, refused the invitation to self-reflection. Instead, he accused the very workers who are risking their lives of opportunism.
7) @HaliJohnMcPhee At a news briefing Wed. April 22, Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer of health...upbraided the union for “fear-mongering and hyperbole” with the news release.

10) Is @TimHoustonNS now promising to work w. next NS govt. to raise wages for #longtermcare workers?

Premiers across Cda. have partnered w. PM Trudeau to increase pay for those working to keep our seniors safe. It’s time for NS to follow suit. #nspoli thechronicleherald.ca/opinion/local-…
At one point @StephenMcNeil actually apologized for @nshealth’s role in holding back #PPE from healthcare workers. They were concerned about having an adequate supply, ostensibly exposing more workers & patients to #COVID. BTW, McNeil has a ‘never apologize’ policy. #covid19ns
“I want you to know that we've been engaged in a procurement process that has taken us around the world. Before we could begin to distribute, we needed to be sure that we had enough,” Stephen McNeil. @AJerrettCTV @CTVAtlantic @StrangRobert @HealthNS
