#K12Leaders sharing #BacktoSchoolPlanning to collaborate and work together! @Robert_Avossa is with us! Follow this thread and our hashtags #TeVE & #TeVirtualEvents (and the replay at the end!)💥
Today is PART 1 - This is a 2 part series. (Part 2 - Sept 10th!! bit.ly/2YDJydV - @TahiraDChase will be with us!) #BringPeopleTogether #TeVirtualEvents #Leadership
We are now #crowdsourcing the most important and relevant topics from our attendees to make the most of our time together. Sharing, starring, and discovering deep insights in under 4 minutes! #TeVirtualEvents
Andy Krenz, host and #Thoughtexchange Director of Education, encourages us to see this as a brave space. If something doesn't resonate, rate it 1 or 2 stars. This is not a judgment of the ppl sharing the thoughts, but about the topics we want to discuss as a collective group.
Let's get right into it! Top thought!
@Robert_Avossa - Don't get stuck, collaborate with other colleagues, be okay with not having all the answers. Decisions made will always have a divide in agreement. #BringPeopleTogether #TeVirtualEvents #TeVE
Andy asks about anxiety and fear within your team, how to deal with this? @Robert_Avossa recommends superintendents STOP reading social media comments (they're getting increasingly hostile). #EdLeadership #TeVE
How to support struggling students? @Robert_Avossa - Keep it low tech. All the kids that don't have internet? They could be in schools. Level one readers have the option to come face to face now while the other kids are distance learning. #TeVirtualEvents #BringPeopleTogether
What about equity for ALL students? @Robert_Avossa This has always been an issue, especially pre-COVID. Start thinking about a way to accelerate learning when kids are back to face to face learning. Incorporating some of these lessons learned during distance learning. #TeVE
Guiding a district through the optics on employee safety and student achievement.
Valuing the safety of employees matters @Robert_Avossa - Figure out a way to understand where your school board is willing to draw a hard line. #TeVirtualEvents
@Robert_Avossa - Don't get fooled by a few LOUD voices - don't get caught up in the "ends" of the conversation, "the polarizing ideas" - There is a middle conversation that is also extremely important and better reflects the majority. #LOUDtocrowd #BringPeopleTogether
Mental health - @Robert_Avossa Pure Edge - 100% free. 5 or 6 mindfulness techniques to help kids calm down and engage. Computer/screen time gets old quickly and sitting all day is not good. You don't need to spend a ton of money on these apps. #BringPeopleTogether
Connectivity - @Robert_Avossa Are we just putting bandaids on it? Yes, but that is needed right now for compassion AND it needs to be a deeper conversation where cities & communities get together for honest conversations about policy investments that need to happen moving forward
@Robert_Avossa - Don't assume that your community knows how you are grappling with the complexity of the issue (reopening). Communication is KEY! Give specific examples to show the complexity and human aspects of reopening. #TeVirtualEvents #TeVE
If you've been following along, what questions do you have for @Robert_Avossa? #K12Leadership #TeVirtualEvents
⬆️ This #Thoughtexchange will only remain open for the 4 minutes during our #TeVE, however, results can still be seen in the Discover step if you're seeing this at a later date. This means you won't be able to share or star thoughts once the exchange is closed.
Hot tip from Andy 🔥 - Leave the last minute of your exchange open for "starring/rating" thoughts only. Encourage your participants to move on to starring to ensure all thoughts have exposure and get enough ratings. #BringPeopleTogether #TeVE
#MentalHealth in #leadership - @Robert_Avossa Meetings - Don't just jump into business. Take it down a notch. Breathing techniques before your meeting. Talk a bit about how you're coping, be vulnerable & share some examples of #selfcare that are working for you. 💜
@Robert_Avossa - Hurricane lessons - They thought that by Aug/Sept they would be okay. They didn't prepare enough over the summer. The msg here is - Do a retrospective debrief to LEARN from your lessons. There are some great lessons from COVID that we need to use to learn from.
Innovative Leadership moving forward - @Robert_Avossa Keep the focus on changes that will benefit kids long term. Thinking differently about learning - Teenagers sleeping until noon - sometimes they get their best work done between 2pm - 11pm! Opportunities to learn in new ways.
Thank you, @Robert_Avossa, for your passionate & encouraging conversation today!
Thank you to all of our attendees who joined us for this collaborative conversation! Very timely & relevant thoughts shared in our exchanges. If you missed this #TeVE stay tuned for the replay link and join us for Part 2 Sept 10 with @TahiraDChase ➡️ bit.ly/2YDJydV
