Greetings from South Australia! Due to a COVID-19 cluster the events this week I was planning to tweet from in-person COVID safe events will instead be covered virtually. Because my mum is a high-risk case, I'm happy to be at home to keep the community safe. #StaySafeStayHome
You can normally follow me at @melaniejward. I tweet to help boost events across STEM in #space, #archaeology & #tech, share events I organise as well as interesting news I come across all while balancing #ADHD, #volunteering, job hunting and uni work.

#ISUNET #flindersuni Image
My mask has @ISUnet's logo. I'm a proud scholarship student from this year's @isu_shssp. The masks are also a thank you gift, as part of #ISUNET's scholarship drive to support others attend so they too can recognise their potential in space. #ASC20…
About me, I'm a science communicator in the first year of my second undergrad degree from @Flinders in #compsci and graduated this year with my bachelor's degree in #archaeology. I started taking part in the space community during my #arch degree. (1/9)

I have always wanted to help people and saw the opportunity to do that in archaeology. In archaeology, you can help make lost voices heard and tell stories that have been forgotten to history. (This is only some of what #spacearchaeologists & #spacehistorians do in #space.) (2/9)
My deep appreciation of #space archaeology led me to want to learn more about the field and what was happening in the world of space. I've learnt so much in my space journey and even seen history being made. I'm so excited to see what else the world of space has in store! (3/9)
Btw, If you want to learn more about what space archaeologists do, @drspacejunk & @jstpwalsh share their work on Twitter & help manage an account called @ISSarchaeology that documents an archaeology project on the space station.

#archaeologytwitter (4/9)
I continued to discover the community of spectacular and supportive people in space. It inspires me to do what I already enjoy doing, helping others. Before I even graduated with my first degree I was encouraging others to help start their journeys in #STEM and #space. (5/9)
You can find a lot of things working in space, even what you didn't realise about yourself. It wasn't a surprise to me I enjoyed #STEMOutreach It was a surprise to me I enjoyed the tasks of promotion, media, comms & event organising that come with the role of outreach. (6/9)
I find I also enjoy volunteering in space because I get to work with some amazing people, as I do through my service on the @aiaa Adelaide Chapter. (Follow @AIAA_Adelaide to keep up with the events we run, as some will remain virtual after restrictions lift!) #AIAA (7/9) Image
I also find other opportunities to work with other wonderful individuals in the great world of space. Like through events with @adastravita, a multidisciplinary project in space health founded by @Docprinzel. Read more ➡️ (8/9) Image
In space, I find I never run out of opportunities to learn. My hope has been to find other outreach enthusiasts to grow with & thankfully @PoweringSpace found me during @iafastro's #CyberSpaceIAC2020! I look forward to learning from all of these amazing communicators! (9/9) Image
That's a little about me, I look forward to sharing some of the events that I'm excited for & I have planned. As well as talk about some of the support I've had on my journey. Do you have any #spaceevents coming up? Post below! I'm happy to help boost the signal. #spaceagenda
Are you conducting an event or meeting online? Below is an outline to help you find the words to Acknowledge Country virtually⬇️

I'm wasn't really sure at first how to start this, but I wanted to start to speak a bit about mental health. As this is a #space page, I decided to start with some research. In #spacepscyhology researchers consider #mentalhealth. (1/9) #MentalHealthAwareness
#space #pscyhologists look to studies in Antarctica (an extreme, isolated environment) to essentially have a larger population to study due to the small sample size of our astronauts currently. In addition to speaking with current & former astronauts. (2/9) #AcademicMentalHealth
I hope though, I can encourage others to have that conversation informally. I've seen the benefit of starting this conversation in practice. Especially in my classmates while I study at university, and even colleagues at a conference. (3/9) #AcademicMentalHealth

As a budding science communicator, I follow #science & #space info campaigns not only for entertainment, I follow to learn. One of the campaigns that have been a masterclass in comms of the #CopernicusEU #Sentinel6 project. (My thread on the launch campaign ⬇️)#scicomm #sentinerd
I also enjoyed #NASAHalloween campaign, this year they not only released some amazing posters (see below) but they also had a playlist of amazing spooky space music➡️…

@NASAJPL @Caltech I'm also learning a lot from the amazing media team at the @AusAntarctic. Their account is so much fun, they share the phenomenal work being done in #Antarctica! And interesting highlights from the animal life there, like this⬇️

About my book, “Outer Solar System Moons: Your Personal 3D Journey” (Printed and digital copies can be purchased at

I got the itch to author this after the success of my colleague’s book, “Mars: Your Personal 3D Journey” by @AntonioParis! 1/n
All of the 3D images were made in @Photoshop and the final draft was made in @powerpoint. While the entire process was very arduous and frustrating at times, the result has been nothing short of rewarding, as the book is finally starting to sell bigly! The very positive...2/n I’ve received has made the journey worth it, so far, and I hope to author another book again, someday. I’m extremely grateful to Dr. Jessica Noviello for her amazing Introduction and feedback prior to publishing, and the quote from @AstroDocScott in the...3/n

About Me (@ET_Exists)...

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and after wasting time post-high school trying to figure out what I wanted to major in, I enlisted in the @usairforce where I served six years as an Aircraft Mechanic. I struggled academically, but conducted two years of successful exoplanet research with Dr. Darin Ragozzine, and decided to transfer to @SESEASU to be closer to home and since it was a clean transfer I was able to...2/n
