Adding useful info from #Inscription of #Gupta era (~320-550 CE) in this thread in support of सत्र (#Temple Kitchen, अन्नदान) tradition of Hindus

• Place - गढवा (Pic 1)
• Dist. - प्रयागराज, #UttarPradesh

1/n ImageImage
गढवा is a #Fort near to प्रयागराज. Ancient name of this place was भट्टग्राम.

Some 6-7 Inscriptions are found from here in #Sanskrit language. Most of them are badly damaged and so incomplete but still giving useful information.
2/n Image
This गढवा #Fort houses many beautiful #Temple ruines of #Gupta era.

From this Temples, Inscriptions related to अन्नदान (सत्र) are found. They reveal that wealthy people of पाटलिपुत्र (Capital of Gupta Empire) donated a lot for sustaining this सत्र tradition.
3/n ImageImage
Among donors are noble ladies and sons of wealthy people of Pataliputra. Few others are unidentified due to the damaged condition of these Inscriptions.

Scholars believe there was a grand temple at गढवा where these activities were happening on a large scale.

Two Inscriptions related to Chandragupta Gupta are listed below with Sanskrit text, Hindi translation and references. Image
6/n
Inscription during rule of Kumaragupta (कुमारगुप्त) denotes two people named गोविन्द and लक्ष्मा (लक्ष्मी ?) of पाटलिपुत्र, have donated for sustenance of सदासत्र (24×7 अन्नदान) here. Image

In another Inscription, from era of कुमारगुप्त, along with coins (दीनार), donation of सुवर्ण (Gold) are also mentioned.

These donations were aimed to provide and keeping tradition of सदासत्र alive.

To sustain this tradition, even भूमि was also donated. Image

Following 2 imp. take aways from these Inscriptions -

• Presence of a big #Temple at गढवा even before Gupta era (~ 320 CE)

• Arrangement of अन्नदान and सदासत्र in the temple by wealthy people of पाटलिपुत्र

(Pic - A water #Tank in गढवा #Fort) Image

Just to put things in perspective,
1 दीनार = ~ 16 Silver #Coin (Ref. - Vasudev Upadhyay)

Taking all such donations mentioned in these Inscriptions, around 560 Silver coins were donated, along with Gold & land piece, at गढवा temple complex.
10/10

गढवा group of #Inscription is very important evidence of a living tradition of #Temple Kitchen (सदासत्र) in #India.

Apart from these, many #धर्मशास्त्रम् sources also mention this सत्र, सदासत्र and धर्मसत्र traditions.

अन्नदान महादान 🙏.

So, insulting ब्राह्मण community and a brave क्षत्रिय king are absolutely ok.

Also, ok is creating a derogatory term "Hyper Hindu".
SS of the same tweet, in case I get blocked from Shefali ji.
So, upper caste in #Bengal is responsible for oppression of Hindus as per @AparBharat ... and this is not a casteist slur as per @ShefVaidya ji.

Insulting Brahmanas of MP, Brave king from UP and million dollar tweet on upper cast of Bengal ... Everything is OK.

This thread is a compilation of writing/threads/tweets on Kautilya's #अर्थशास्त्रम् (Arthashastra).

Thread also includes refutation of propagandas against Kautilya/Arthashastra and topics which are refuted/supported based on Arthashastra.
(1) The very first article I wrote on Kautilya's Arthashastra, also published on @/indictoday

It traces origin-tradition-veneration of Arthashastra as a शास्त्र and later on guiding force for Empires/Kings. It also lists tradition before & after कौटिल्य.
vyasonmukh.in/2021/01/12/art…
(2) Here I refuted one propaganda which says slave (slavery) is found in Arthashastra.

Term used by कौटिल्य is दास which is NOT slave.

Roots of योग are Hindu, not Jain.

Common Sources -
#योगसूत्रम् (पतंजलि) predates any Jain literature (~200 BCE)
• Artifacts in योग positions (Sindhu-Sarasvati civilization) predate any Jain artifact (~4000 BCE/older)
• श्रीकृष्ण (योगेश्वर Master of योग) predates Jainism Image
During time of पतंजलि, writing was already in vogue in #India. Kautilya in #अर्थशास्त्रम् (~350 BCE) has mentioned keeping written records in administration.

It proves oral practice was already ended by that time. It means, Jain sources came later on.
Good to see you agree that Jain literature comes much later than योगसूत्र of Patanjali (~200 BCE)

Also, Kautilya in #अर्थशास्त्रम् (~350 BCE) mentions योग as a mandatory विद्या for a King (Ch. 1)

With time, Jains adopted few योग concepts.
