Thread: Last night the #IDF conducted what appears to be extensive airstrikes against #Hamas positions in #Gaza. During the raids several images started circulating claiming they had targeted Hospitals and Civ. Homes causing "massive damage" these images are OLD and not related.
A video from last night caught my eye (included). A lot happens in this video in a short period of time.
The left image highlights the initial strike conducted by the #IDF, the right image shows a much larger secondary explosion, usually these are related to highly explosive materials being present at the location.
A third explosion is also witnessed in the video, in this edited and slowed version of the media, you can see two things of interest, the first circle, the explosives, appears to be a rocket(s). The second circle, the soil shifting in the explosion, an underground explosion.
Whilst investigating this, @eliorlevy released the included report which started to align with the video used here.
The secondary explosion was extensive, and this is where the Hospital and Civilian Homes come into this. Satellite imagery courtesy of @planetlabs shows the damage caused by the explosion in the black circle, also a secondary target in the white circle.
The black circle overlaying the rough blast radius over Google Earth Pro shows the distance the core debris shown and visible on satellite appears to have travelled to the South-East/South of the explosion. Rectangle highlights the Hospital, just within range of the core debris
Highly possible smaller pieces of debris could have caused damage here, along with a shockwave from the larger secondary explosion shown in the video. The white circle in the before/after gif is in the middle of a residential area with homes adjacent to the compound.
Please ignore any spelling mistakes/grammar. I am watching TV at the same time.
derp, first issue noticed. a potential underground explosion.
