#christian cultural training:
In their origin story,
the women was the reason #EveAndAdam were damned. Because of Eve’s failure,
they believe #childbirth must hurt.
Just SUGGESTING #Childbirth was never expected to hurt, can trigger many people who had bad experiences.
Every birth is both physical
AND psychological.
Christians tend to have painful births bc they are TERRIFIED.
The curse of Eve
works on believers.
But that belief system is also heavily sexually stunted.
(Women were sexual property at the time men wrote the bible)
Oxytocin is the hormone responsible for orgasm.
Fueled by oxygen,
the chemical release causes contractions and that familiar tingly sensation and peaceful acceptance of the
day’s coming bullshit.
These #hormones activate the brain in the same regions as pain does. During #sex AND #birth, not only are parts of your #brain shutting down, the ABILITY to interpret pain signals diminishes. #ThanksOxytocin
Oxytocin binds with nociceptors.
Oxytocin, Vasopressin, and #Melatonin overwhelm the senses in a cocktail that drugs and debilitates brain function HEAVILY. The sensation of #birthland is similar to the disassociative effects of #ketamine (w diff type of hole)
😂 medcraveonline.com/MOJCRR/in-mela…
It is important to note,
at this stage,
a woman ovaries-deep in birthland will not be able to speak. During transition ESPECIALLY the business of #birth can not be narrated first hand. Much like falling asleep, birth interferes w the neocortex.
So if you’re currently #pregnant,
don’t listen to the elders.
Their birth experience was unique to THEM.
Your ability to have painless contractions is rooted in science. Just remember its hard to fall asleep if you’re TERRIFIED.
Birth is psychological. evidencebasedbirth.com/childbirth-edu…
Children are told,
“Birth is like squeezing a golf ball out your nose!”
Nostrils aren’t giant circular muscles capable of stretching or squeezing. That is the WORST analogy. Birth is more like pooping. Constipation even.
But not inherently painful.
You don’t feel it til later😂
@sonnlich Women aren’t martyrs for birth.
People who feel pain during birth might have problems releasing enough oxytocin, or allowing the brain to shut down. Natural birth hormones makes pain reception during birth very difficult.
My mom had a bad time too. 🤷🏻♀️
@sonnlich Its most accurately analogous to sex.
Sex hurts some people who are not physically or mentally ready for it.
The birth reflex fills all the body’s pain receptors w oxytocin, and the brain shuts down. Doulas call that condition ‘birthland’
@sonnlich I suspect there may be a correlation between women who exercise (body building) and women who have painless births. Muscle fitness includes the practice of oxygenation to prevent soreness during exercise.
Some people think the gym is INCREDIBLY PAINFUL!
This thing can record a #timelapse of the #drawing to upload later. So I can use this like a sketch book and add layers and everything! #Whoa
Heres my #LineQuality warm-ups
(w small circles cut short bc my favorite aunt kidnapped me for errand adventures 😁) #illustration#prac
Its VERY sensitive too. While it was downloading my sketch, I moved something on the table and made it shake a tiny bit. A warning screen popped up reminding to to keep it on a secure surface. 😳
It knew it was moving! #ItsAlive
Will reposition clips. I’m not a lefty.
