I have been working in the #psychedelics industry for 4 years now and here is my advice to anyone inspired to try psychedelics after watching @michaelpollan's How to Change Your Mind on @Netflix. 👇
@michaelpollan @netflix 1. Congratulations! Whether you follow through or not, you've opened your mind to a new perspective. That's awesome. That, by itself, is worth celebrating. (Truthfully, it's also one of the best aspects of psychedelic experiences -- new perspectives.)
@michaelpollan @netflix 2. Get informed.

Rest assured that most psychedelics are quite safe. (Check out @ProfDavidNutt's study on this: economist.com/graphic-detail…)

But they aren't for everyone. And knowing what you're about to embark on is the best way to ensure a positive experience.

Why this new #ketamine law in Colorado is a disaster that will cost more lives than it is intended to save, a thread:
Severe agitation is a medical emergency requiring prompt recognition and management. It causes patients to harm themselves, raises heart rate and blood pressure to dangerously high levels, and can raise temperature to levels equivalent to heat stroke.
Of the therapeutic options that exist, ketamine has the widest safe dosing range. Doses up to 13 mg/kg are safely used in children. It works faster than anything else to reduce the agitation and allow evaluation and mgmt. It is the least likely to cause the pt to stop breathing.

Thread about #painless #birth

Did you have painless contractions?
Tell me your #birthstory
#momlife #pregnancy #OXYTOCIN

threadreaderapp.com/thread/1411279…
I think this topic might trigger some in particular, bc of the #religious belief that #WomenMustSuffer

#christian cultural training:
In their origin story,
the women was the reason #EveAndAdam were damned. Because of Eve’s failure,
they believe
#childbirth must hurt.
Just SUGGESTING
#Childbirth was never expected to hurt, can trigger many people who had bad experiences.

Every birth is both physical
AND psychological.
Christians tend to have painful births bc they are TERRIFIED.

The curse of Eve
works on believers.

So, we've covered a bit of learning theory for #EdTech2020 and @Monash_CPDMOE

Now for look at Twitter and the Learner Image
Most of us learners love social media (Luo et al. 2019) - it satisfies Kirkpatrick level 1 - but can it do more?

Back in 2013, @petercartledge , Miller & @drbobphillips performed a systematic review and found 1047 articles looking at #SoMe and identified just 9 looking at outcome measures - mainly related to learner satisfaction

Pharmacist here: Let’s talk about Spravato otherwise known as ketamine nasal spray.

THREAD/ theguardian.com/us-news/2019/j…
Although ketamine has been saddled with a bad rap due to street abuse, it is classified federally as a schedule 3 medication. For reference, marijuana and bath salts are schedule 1 (meaning it has no medical purpose and not legal) and methamphetamine and cocaine are schedule 2...
(meaning high abuse potential but legal for restricted medical use). Ketamine has been around since 1970 as an IV anesthetic, but ended up only being used on children as it tends to give adults hallucinations, which is what it is abused for on the street. ...

I’m pissed off... A Thread on #ElijahMcClain

It took 4yrs of College, 4yrs of Med School, 4yrs of Residency, 1yr of Fellowship to be a Double-Board Certified Anesthesiologist.

I use #Ketamine to put people FULLY to sleep, & NEVER have I EVER used 500mg of ketamine to do so. Image
500mg IM is OVER the dose I would use for a GENERAL ANESTHETIC! Hell, for sedation you would barely use 1/3rd of that dose.
Ketamine carries risk of laryngospasm, cardiovascular collapse, & aspiration if you vomit. Bc of that I have to have full consent, so did #ElijahMclain? Image
His final words, My God.

How can you not be left angry after that?! Did anyone think to say, is there someone we can call for you? To speak to his Mother instead of violate his body and take his life.

Every. Single. Participant. Should. Be. Charged.

And I do mean everyone.

OK! As promised, here’s my very first #Tweetorial on #ketamine. It comes to you in 6 parts:
1 Mechanism
2 Intermittent bolus dosing
3 Procedural sedation
4 Low dose IV infusion
5 High dose IV infusion
6 Contraindications/warnings
#medtwitter #pharmacy #FOAMed #FOAMcc
Because I’m a hospital pharmacist, we’re going to focus on IV ketamine. Ketamine has other modes of administration (looking at you nasal-spray-for-depression) so feel free to add your own experiences below!
PART 1: MECHANISM
When an injury occurs, the dorsal horn releases glutamate which binds to the NMDA receptor. In some patients, this signals a cascade which eventually leads to the nervous system being stuck in a state of “high reactivity."

1/ #Cannsolve summit with Dr. Ian Mitchell, talking on “a tale of two drugs” aka #THC & #gabapentin
2/ #Gabapentin was made by Park Davis who also made #ketamine and #cocaine
3/ #NIDA only studies drug abuse. In the US #cannabis must come from NIDA. Therefore, we can see challenges in researching the #benefits of #cannabis in US
