Former gas pipeline engineer on last night's Ladysmith fire near the @FortisBC LNG tank storage: "Didn't ever suspect they were allowed to build an #LNG facility anywhere near population centres, let alone on the island... #LadysmithBC#bcwildfires
@FortisBC ..Engineer: "If LNG gets released, as we know, it forms an explosive vapour cloud that drifts around until it is ignited by something. In this case, it would be the forest fire... #LadysmithBC#LNG
@FortisBC .."The LNG storage tank must be kept cold. If not LNG can warm up, expand & burst the tank, releasing this vapour cloud. No water spray will make any diff. These facilities are being allowed w/o knowledge of LNG's dangers. BC doesn't need a disaster of that size to finally learn"
@FortisBC ..Engineer: "1.5 billion cu ft of gas storage. Assume stored as LNG. Volume of potential vapour cloud if released: 1.5 bcfx 600 = 900 bn cu ft floating in air. Ignition could be like a small atomic bomb. Fire too close to LNG plant. How were they allowed to site it in forest?"
@FortisBC ..Engineer: "For comparison, 1.5 billion cu ft is the amount a 42" dia high pressure nat gas pipeline transports in a day. All that energy would be released all at once in a gigantic explosion and fireball" #LNG#NaturalGas#fracking#BCWildfires
@FortisBC ..Engineer: "They typically have high pressure water protection for small fires in the facility to keep them from getting near the tank. At large facilities these would be automatically operated remotely. Here it's likely manned, but if they are evacuated...? No response I guess"
@FortisBC ..Engineer: "I suppose the best they can do is to have the water spray directed at the LNG tank to keep the fire heat off it, if possible" #ladysmithbc#LNG#BCWildfires
@FortisBC Sorry, engineer had corrected his first #s but I missed the correction. If 1.5 bn is the gas volume, not stored as LNG, 1.5 billion cu ft vapor cloud is still a bomb. The 900 bn cu ft number is too large... it's 1. 5 billion cu ft. Pipeline comparison is correct.
@FortisBC Sorry bots and astroturfers... hiding your Calgary-based replies.

In court, the logging company's lawyer said of the land defenders, 'their resistance to being arrested is just shocking!' (This generated some amusement)
Leaving aside what "resistance" means for now, let's just review what's been going on with the RCMP at #FairyCreek...
Recall: the RCMP not only used this injunction to remove forest defenders from the #FairyCreek area, they exceeded their powers, & barred media from witnessing their actions, & more. In August, Judge Thompson (same judge as today) found that: cbc.ca/news/canada/br…#bcpoli
Yesterday we heard harrowing stories of RCMP violence from Wet'suwet'en matriarch Marlene Hale who's been at #FairyCreek supporting Pacheedaht Elder Bill Jones. See photo? Says police impregnate gloves w/ a sedative, force it over defenders' faces & drag them out @mikefarnworthbc
@mikefarnworthbc We heard about arrestees kept in overheated vans meant to carry fewer prisoners, hands tied & finally driven at breakneck speeds over logging roads until passengers throw up. Of the "green men" (RCMP tactical?) whose name badges are obscured by disallowed thin blue line badges
The land defenders' do not resist, so the fact so many are injured by police, esp by the "green men" who seem to have the job of roughing them up, is proof this violence is deliberate. Teal Jones wants access to the massive ancient trees now, & RCMP will harm kids to help them.
THREAD. This 17-year-old was removed from a tripod at Ada’itsx/#FairyCreek on Aug 24. An RCMP officer cut the youth’s shirt off, covered his face with a gloved hand & held his head back at an uncomfortable angle, before dropping him down with a rope around his lower ribs. #bcpoli
THREAD - Report from #FairyCreekBlockade that you won't hear in the BC mainstream media, on the imminent cutting of these ancient trees, incl 1000 year old giants.
The RCMP are acting as heavies for the logging company Teal Jones which has been posting... record profits. #bcpoli
.."This tree is in the next block to be logged at #FairyCreek starting tmrw. It's just outside the watershed. Police cleared the route to it by smashing in the windows of a van so they could drag a woman who had been sleeping in the van out, then crushed her van with a bulldozer"
.."Did we get pictures? No, we are no longer allowed to take pictures, on pain of arrest, and the media were excluded by an illegal exclusion zone. The one BC Supreme Court Justice Justice Thompson said this about: #bcpoli#FairyCreek#oldgrowth@BCRCMP@mikefarnworthbc@Dave_Eby
Tip: mistrust anyone mentioning surface hygiene, handwashing, sanitization stations. There is no evidence for fomite transmission - at all. Someone tell Dr. Henry.
Mistrust anyone not centering masks and ventilation.
I feel the entire "Non-fatal coyote attacks on adults in Canada" section on Wikipedia was written by the same person. Every single entry uses the word "mauled," & reads like someone relaying coyote attack gossip to their friend over the phone en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coyote_at…#StanleyPark
"On August 31, 2017, a coyote stalked a young woman and her two children at Round Ray Beach in Shelburne, NS. The screamed for her son to come to her, made roaring noises, & clapped her hands to frighten the animal away. It looked up & relocated to the grasses beside the beach."
Ok this one doesn't use the word "mauled" but the details are great: "On January 8, 2018, a coyote assaulted a woman and her miniature pinscher in Markham, Ontario. Her neighbor rescued them by defending the wild animal with a snow shovel."
