WHO is proud to partner with #Germany🇩🇪, a staunch advocate for 🌍 health & WHO’s largest donor, supporting our work to:
✅strengthen global health
✅combat antimicrobial resistance
✅achieve universal health coverage
✅respond to emergencies
✅protect the vulnerable
To speed-up the development and deployment of #COVID19 technologies, 🇩🇪 has committed US$2.64 billion to the @ACTAccelerator to ensure global access to safe, quality, effective, & affordable diagnostics, therapeutics & vaccines.
Since the onset of #COVID19, #Germany 🇩🇪 has further increased its commitment to global health with political, financial & technical support, and through in-kind contributions of equipment to many countries from @BMG_Bund.
🇩🇪 is a 🔑supporter of health emergency preparedness and response & the top donor to the WHO Contingency Fund for Emergencies, contributing more than US$68 million of flexible funding since 2015, supporting WHO's response to more than 120 emergencies.
On 1 September, thanks to 🇩🇪 #Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel's strong support, WHO will inaugurate its new WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence in Berlin.
"As you know, WHO’s global targets are to support every country to vaccinate at least 40% of its population by the end of this year, and 70% of the world’s population by the middle of next year"-@DrTedros#VaccinEquity
@DrTedros "So far just 2 countries in Africa have reached the 40% target, the lowest of any region. That’s not because African countries don’t have the capacity or experience to roll out #COVID19 vaccines. It’s because they've been left behind by the rest of the 🌍"-@DrTedros#VaccinEquity
@DrTedros "Access to essential health services for millions of people in #Afghanistan – especially women and girls – is likely to reduce sharply because of a pause in donor funding to the country’s largest health project, Sehatmandi"-@DrTedros
@DrTedros "This project is the backbone of #Afghanistan’s health system, supporting more than 2,300 health facilities. This pause in funding could result in a worst-case scenario of more than 90% of these clinics and hospitals shutting their doors"-@DrTedros
Q: What is #sepsis?
A: Sepsis is a life-threatening medical emergency. It occurs when a person has an infection, and the body’s response causes injury to its own tissues and organs.
Sepsis affects millions of patients 🌍
@DrTedros "Today, the #DRC declared an outbreak of #meningitis in the north-eastern Tshopo Province, with 261 suspected cases and 129 deaths reported. Health authorities have deployed an initial emergency team, and WHO is supporting the response"-@DrTedros
@DrTedros "More than 100 patients are already receiving treatment at home & in 🇨🇩 health centres. WHO has provided medical supplies & plans to deploy more experts & resources. #Meningitis is a deadly & debilitating disease, with serious health, economic & social consequences"-@DrTedros
It's the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies
#AirPollution kills an estimated 7⃣ million people every year around the 🌎🌍🌏
To save lives and achieve #HealthForAll, let's align our efforts and claim the right to clean air.
In 2019, 1/3 of the 🌎🌍🌏 population were exposed to high levels of health-damaging pollutants due to the lack of access to clean fuels and technologies for cooking 🔥
Unless we accelerate action, the environmental, social, and health toll of #AirPollution will continue, falling disproportionately on women and children, who bear primary responsibility for gathering fuel and preparing meals on polluting stoves.
