Doctors and nurses were among the initiators of civil disobedience after 1 February. As a result, not only health care collapsed. Strikes and passive resistance also called the army into action.
Since then, the distribution of medicines, oxygen equipment and vaccine doses has largely been in the hands of people loyal to the regime. Covid-19 is thus used by the military government as a weapon against resistance.

The Central Bank of Myanmar has released dollar reserves to support the national currency, but the erosion continues. As a result, business people in Yangon report, the Russian rouble, the renminbi and the Thai baht have established themselves as parallel currencies.
