Because of Bolsonaro, it is easy to overlook: Brazil is one of the countries with the most sustainable energy production in the world. Among the G-20 countries, Brazil has the highest share of renewable energy in total final energy consumption (43 percent).
It is a rapidly growing market: in the last seven years, Brazil has invested the most in wind energy in the world after China and the USA.

Brazil has all the prerequisites to become a location with the most favourable costs for green hydrogen worldwide.
With 150 gigawatts (GW), Brazil ranks third in the world in cumulative renewable energy capacity - behind China and the United States, according to the International Energy Agency. Brazil, for example, is number 2 in the world in the use of hydropower.
But Brazil is also number 2 in the world for biofuels: The country produces biodiesel from soy and, above all, ethanol from sugar cane.
Solar energy is now being expanded at a rapid pace after the country slept through the development for more than 15 years.
In contrast to competitors like Australia or Chile, which are already further ahead than Brazil as producers and suppliers of green hydrogen on the world market,Brazil has, in addition to wind and sun, above all biomass and enormous water reserves, which these countries do not have
The "grey" hydrogen, which is produced with conventional energy sources such as gas, is still cheaper to produce. But Brazil produces wind power at the lowest cost worldwide.
Therefore, "green" hydrogen should become competitive with "grey" hydrogen faster in South America than in other regions of the world.
The steel industry has one of the highest greenhouse gas emissions in the world. Car manufacturers, for example, soon want to be able to offer their customers vehicles made of "green" steel. Brazil could soon supply this
Brazil's government misses the boat - again

While the private sector sees the potential, this realisation has not yet reached the top of the government. But this was no different in the past with solar and wind energy - and has now been corrected.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has clearly drawn attention to the legal risks that investors run when buying so-called ADRs or American Depositary Shares on Wall Street.
After all, these are merely certificates with limited rights of access issued by an American bank - and not shares.
The ADRs are based on a structure called VIE or Variable Interest Entity. This is interposed because, according to Chinese law, foreigners are not allowed to directly own shares in Chinese companies in most sectors.

Doctors and nurses were among the initiators of civil disobedience after 1 February. As a result, not only health care collapsed. Strikes and passive resistance also called the army into action.
Since then, the distribution of medicines, oxygen equipment and vaccine doses has largely been in the hands of people loyal to the regime. Covid-19 is thus used by the military government as a weapon against resistance.
