The 3-day finale of #yyccc 2017-2021 was lit!!! It’s hard to believe the writers were able to get so many great things resolved. Also, so many cool things have been set up for the next show: 2021-2025 (which will start filming on Oct 18). Here’s my recap of the highlights: 1/24

The finale opened w emotion: 1) #yyc-based members of the #TokyoOlympics/#TokyoParalympics #teamcanada were honored. 2) tributes to the retiring members of #yyccc, @DruhFarrell @EWoolleyWard8 @ChahalGeorge @Ward4Ward1 @CouncillorKeats & @nenshi, induced tears & good vibes. 2/24

After almost exactly 4yrs of work initiated by my learning about #BenefitDrivenProcurement @FCSSAAoffice’s AGM right after the 2017 #yycvote, getting an NoM passed by #yyccc, & development shepherded by @momentumcalgary’s @HareCourtney, we’ve approved a great policy!!! 3/24

We approved the excellent @BandAPlanning plan for the Foothills Athletic Park & McMahon Stadium Lands as the future home of our major Field House (w $90million in the bank awaiting fed & provincial support) & an @YYCActiveCITY neighborhood. 4/24 engage.calgary.ca/foothills-mcma…

We approved the Clean Energy Improvement Program which is a great piece of #ClimateAction!!! Citizens will be able to access $ to improve the environmental performance of their homes & pay @cityofcalgary back on their tax bill over time. 5/24 pub-calgary.escribemeetings.com/filestream.ash…

Funding was approved for #29 on the #W9DreamNetwork - the @BRCAssociation multimodal bridge that will provide an #accessible connection between the hood, the LRT Station, & #StPatricksIaland!!! The #EventfulCity strategy was approved that’ll supercharge our our celebration of #yycarts & #yycculture through events big & small all across #yyc. Embedded in the strategy is a funding ask for a major regional park/events venue served by @GreenLineYYC in @MillicanOgdenCA! 7/24

In a motion arising to the #EventfulCity strategy I (& the rest of #yyccc) were happy to support @EWoolleyWard8’s request to study the viability of the #BlueLine-serviced old Greyhound Station in the future #WestVillage as an events venue. 8/24

As #yyccc’s co-lead at the @CalgaryMetroReg (alongside @nenshi), we were able to address a number of regional matters in support of Minister @RicMcIver’s pending signing into law of our economic diversification & #ClimateAction, #transit-focused Regional Plan. 9/24

And speaking of #SmartGrowth & a better future for #yyc, we fully approved (with a massive majority of #yyccc) the North Hill Communities Local Area Plan - the first of ~40 LAPs that will guide a less sprawling & more thriving, resilient, & inclusive future. 10/24

Another major step forward towards a more sustainable & transit-focused future was the swapping of approved growth areas in #EastCalgary’s #Belvedere from growth along the ring road, to growth along #MAXPurple-supported 17AVSE. Few thought we could do it, but we did it!!! 11/24

We’re making permanent one of the great silver-linings of #COVID, the reclamation of our #PublicRealm for #patios, w ongoing #smallbusiness-friendly minimized red tape & costs + a renewed focus on #Accessibility. Props to @EWoolleyWard8 for his leadership on this file. 12/24

We approved the new reorganized structure of @cityofcalgary that will come fully into effect for the 2022-2026 budget cycle - this delivers a key component of my last 11yrs. The new structure is designed to empower a civil service to deliver a #yyc of #GreatNeighbourhoods. 13/24

Continuing our nation-leading municipal response to #COVID, which involved the highest amount of (& most importantly targeted) supports for #localbusiness, we approved the Hotel & Motel Property Tax Deferral Program to help that hard-hit (& critical to our recovery) sector. 14/24

Addressing a ~$4million shortfall in promised funding from the province & feds (due to how they miscalculated our gas tax allotment), we approved a plan to manage it within cash flows to keep our @yycARTS transformation fully funded & on track. 15/24

After years of sitting in a neither fish nor fowl limbo that was honestly a worst of both worlds scenario, we directed the reintegration of @CalgaryParking back into @cityofcalgary’s reorganized structure. Disconnects between policy & implementation will be less severe now. 16/24

I was honored to work with @JyotiGondek & @DruhFarrell to bring forward a NoM focused on one of the most important components of our recovery - #AffordableChildcare. Thanks to #yyccc for unanimous support of exploring how @cityofcalgary can ensure improved safety & access. 17/24

As part of our work supporting #Ward10 after Ray Jones’s retirement, @ChahalGeorge & I got support to transfer use (& potentially ownership) of a city-owned ROW to the adjacent #MuslimCommunityFoundationofCalgary’s Calgary #Islamic School to enlarge their playground. 18/24

Addressing the beautiful problem of the #HarviePassage being over-loved by #yyc given the current management vacuum between @calgaryparks, @AB_Enviro, various user groups & the general public, @JyotiGondek & I got #yyccc to establish a Taskforce to solve things. 19/24

In support of #TruthAndReconciliation & our commitment to #AffordableHousing @JyotiGondek @Ward4Ward1 & I got support to waive property taxes for @AlbertaMetis-owned #Indigenous-focused housing properties in #yyc & fight to change the #ableg law so they’re exempted. 20/24

In support of the #W9DreamNetwork I was delighted to support DCU & @JeffDavisonYYC’s NoM to support @youthenroute’s mission to prioritize #yycbike routes to schools throughout #yyc. 21/24 pub-calgary.escribemeetings.com/filestream.ash…

Anticipating interventions we’re going to need to make along @intavebrz, I was happy to support @EWoolleyWard8 piloting a community safety hub along the #StephenAvenueMall. Like @TwelveCSI’s Ambassador Program, I’ll be working to bring these solutions up to @ForestLawnYYC. 22/24

In support of @CGYFireFighters & @GreenLineYYC-driven TOD in @InglewoodYYC & @ramsaycalgary I’m very pleased #yyccc supported a deal for a mixed use development + fire station across from @Ol_beautiful & @cold_garden. The next #yyccc will oversee its details & delivery. 23/24

To wrap up, the writers surprised us w a #COVIDAB miniseries featuring @nenshi that’ll run between now & the start of the next #yyccc at #yycvote on Oct18. Here’s hoping they go with the #Carra4Ward9 #RiseTogetherYYC storyline!!!
