It's common for a far right account like @libsoftiktok to:

1. Deny they're far right
2. Conflate "woke" with "racist" and
3. Completely misunderstand the outcome of the VA Gov race.

My thoughts on why, follow.
IMO (as a political scientist and longtime observer of US politics) there are multiple reasons why Youngkin won #VAgov over McAuliffe.

First, no VA governor has won a second term in generations.

And elections soon after the WH changes hands almost always go to the oppo party.
I firmly believe that the VA outcome was based largely on local, idiosyncratic reasons, not a national trend.

Accordingly, fellow pro-democracy folk need not be sad today. Nothing has changed.

But it's good that more are waking up to the five alarm emergency the US is in rn.
Biden and every other Democrat in office and opinion media must immediately turn toward saving American democracy through voting rights and proper accountability for the big lie and 1/6.

Social and infrastructure bills are important but they are NOT as important as the above.
Already Rs have gained another Governor & some local & statewide officials who will UNDOUBTEDLY contribute to the dire need to defy history in 2022 & outdo Rs in local, state & federal government.

Because if we don't, 2022 will be the last election in the US as we know it.
This is not hyperbole (something for which I am not usually known.)

The US seems more like Weimar Germany every day.

It's as if Rs have spent the past few years using the OG Nazi playbook to the letter. Weak opposition allows far right fascists to win power, anywhere.
Look at this headline.

Caveat: The rally at the Ellipse was lawful. The breaching of the Capitol was not. >700 have been charged so far for the latter. Dozens remain in jail pending trial.
Here's why #WhiteWomen is trending.

Please don't allow this to distract you from keeping your eyes on the prize:

>accountability for all involved in all aspects of 1/6, incl. TFG & his entourage, henchmen, & #StochasticTerrorism victims.

>VOTING RIGHTS for all Americans.
Youngkin didn't win because of "education" politics, he won because of race politics.

CRT is not taught in public schools in the US. If it is, show me your evidence (and it better be good.)

Like his Dear Leader, he exploited the gullibility of certain voter groups.
I'm a white woman, who as an Independent would have voted for the Democrat in this election in VA. But I'm an outLIER. Because I don't believe liars.

ALL sides try to exploit racism in order to win. To win at any cost, when those costs fall on others.

Wise up to it. Fast.
Yes, a bunch of VA voters, who happen to be white, and happen to be women, flipped from voting for Biden one year ago to voting for obvious maga sycophant Youngkin.

Swing voters always decide elections in purple states.

More states become purple each year.
It's a worldwide trend, in fact. That more states, provinces, districts, counties, cities, towns, and seats are becoming swing, marginal, contested, or purple.

Swing voters elect the Manchins, Sinemas, Cheneys, and McCains.

IDC which side you're on, they ruin your majority.
IMO the solution to this is to listen more to your skilled and experienced *strategists* and less to your candidates and incumbents.

Strategists compete in the market of ideas, which is way more functional than the market of self-interested politicians.
As much as I am relieved Biden is in the WH and I totally support him as the leader the US needs right now, he is still subject to placing self interest ahead of national interest.

That's why he has prioritized "his" agenda in these spending bills ahead of the twin emergencies.
I know how much Americans needs those bills to have been passed already in their original form. I hate having call for de-prioritizing them.

But I figured out Manchin and Sinema only had to delay those bills long enough to hand a win to Rs and Youngkin.

The damage is done.
The bills would have been a huge help to Americans in need because of the pandemic. But those same Americans are at far greater risk if the Weimar Republic playbook is able to succeed in the coming year.

You probably can't convince Biden to re-prioritize but it's worth a try.
(Sorry for the typos. I gotta slow down.)

What I recommend pro-democracy Americans do, is to let go of those bills unless a viable path to voting for them can actually succeed. Don't waste anymore time on those two DINOs. They are laughing at you, & "pocketing the Putin cash."
#NeverTrump conservatives WILL help Democrats stop the far right fascist trend even with progressives under the big tent with them. Y'all don't have to like each other or agree on non-emergency policies. But uniting to #VoteBlueNoMatterWho can prove the US isn't Weimar Germany.
Look at this NJ Gov race. For now, there are only about 13,000 votes between the D and the R. Then look at the 3rd party candidate votes. Add them up.

Everyone who wants to stop the far right fascists needs to UNITE the fuck out of themselves.

German voters could have.
Hopefully I have made my case emphatically enough.

Please discuss these issues. If a reply can illuminate them I will add my response to it below.

Always remember that there are multiple groups lying to you about reality, & it's not just Republican politicians.

Thread: This clip re the #VAgov race has an interview w/ a white woman claims "there's not a lot of racism" in Loudon County & (unironically) that "if you talk about it less you're gonna notice [it] less."

I'm a white woman who disagrees with her take.

I know there's a damaging and unacceptable level of racist behavior in every county of the US (and FWIW in every part of my own country, NZ.) Logically, the level of it in the state of VA would be above average for the US.

Rs are being blatantly obvious in their racism now.
My understanding of the level of racism in the GOP has changed over the past 5 years. It was more well hidden.

Yes, racism from one group to another can be found among Rs and Ds. This thread is about racism toward African Americans, as the largest group affected.

Thread: My Queen is fully in charge of her faculties.

I can understand HM declining an 800-mile round trip from Windsor to Glasgow as she takes some rest.

Chris Ship's coverage of the royals is among the best but he too has slipped into patronizing her about her health.
TBH I think the pearl-clutching about who makes the decisions on how the Queen spends her time (hint: the Queen) has more to do with resistance toward my future King, Charles III.

I'm loyal to her, and she approves of him.

End of story.
My opinion of the future King Charles III has ebbed and flowed in the years since I first knew of his existence. That was in about 1977, when he was 31.

He has been taking on more responsibility in the palace machine for a good 20 years or so. I think he's going to do well.

I've been thinking about what the pro-democracy majority of Americans can do with Trump assets that will be seized. The Old Post Office in DC is owned by fed govt & TFG has a license to occupy.

It would make an excellent museum to help us #NeverForgetJan6 & far right fascism.
Mar-a-Lago was built for a cereal heiress who left it to the federal govt in her will. The idea was for it to be a kind of Winter White House. That idea never took off and it was put up for sale in the 80s. The buyer was Donald Trump, who restored and modernized it. (continued)
When his assets are seized the property could again be in the hands of the government. I think the residents of Palm Beach deserve the peace and quiet they enjoyed before 2017, so increasing the traffic and noise is a bad idea...

Thread: Revisiting disinfographics from the past.

This one was tweeted on 7/1/2020.

@Blexit is a foundation set up by far right fascist enabler and booster @RealCandaceO.
Firstly, Candace Owens (deliberately) mis-identifies #BlackLivesMatter.

That is the name of a movement around the world that IMO can be summed as anti-racism. (And yes, it is about racism toward one group, for good reason.)

BLM is also the name of a political organization.
Owens, like other fascists, doesn't care whether readers understand the difference between talking about a specific organization & a mass movement.

They have latched onto the domestic terrorism history of some past BLM associates.

While claiming 1/6 was just a tourist visit.

I am not treating this as a "tragic accident" caused by crew members that we should all feel sorry for Alec Baldwin about.

He needs to take full responsibility as actor AND producer of this movie.

I hope he is prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
For me it's nothing to do with politics. (The far right fascist maga movement hates Alec Baldwin. Others are inclined to excuse reckless mistakes by people they like.)

I try to use an objective approach without fear or favor.

He was criminally negligent and reckless.
If I were Alec Baldwin's legal or PR advisor I'd recommend he:

-Release my draft statement without alteration
-Cancel the entire production and ensure everyone receives full compensation
-Never make another movie or act in one
-Lay low and say nothing until after the trial.

Condi Rice is, evidently, incapable of feeling shame.

Note she said "my party."

It's not MY party, anymore, I ran for the hills and am now firmly #XGOP. Not a liberal, either. I'm pro-democracy, period.

Condi is anti-democracy, and did NOTHING to stop Trump in 2016 or 2020.
1. There an be no clearer sign that Condoleezza Rice is, like McConnell, McCarthy and the rest, bought and paid for by wealthy donors. Not directly, but in the shadows.

2. #TheView only invited her onto the show to talk about the late Colin Powell. Instead, she...
... blatantly used the opportunity to act as an apologist for the GOP / GQP at a time when the survival of American democracy itself requires her to speak up.

3. As a black woman, she clearly doesn't care about the well-funded assault on voting rights that's more urgent than
