#Brexit and the results from the negotiations completely changed the discussion on #DifferentiatedIntegration. Now, there is no more a multi-destination Europe, only a multi-speed Europe.

We need to organise a new Schengen Treaty on #migration.
Both in political and academic terms, migration is the area where we could successfully apply #DifferentiatedIntegration. If we don't, we might see a disaster.

The main cause for #DifferentiatedIntegration is diversity. What we found out that there are 2 major types of heterogeneity in the EU 1) Old vs. new member states 2) Level of integration of core state powers
- Frank Schimmelfennig, #InDivEU scientific coordinator

Maybe there is a need to look at #DI from a citizens perspective as a tool to improve, especially in times of crisis.
Compared to 2018 (the period after the Eurocrisis), today, looking at how the #COVID19 crisis has been handled, we do see a decline of #DifferentiatedIntegration in the field of economic policy.
- Bruno de Witte, @EUI_EU at the #InDivEU Final Conference
/9
Looking at policies on justice and home affairs, defence & economic policy, there are many exceptions to the exceptions to #DI
In the Danish case, after their opt-out in 1992, they started applying certain legislation, i.e. Schengen
According to the 2019 EP resolution on #DifferentiatedIntegration, #DI should remain open, maintaining the idea of inclusiveness and the aspect of temporality, no permanent opt-outs.
#DifferentiatedIntegration has brought many positive developments to the #EU, i.e. Schengen Agreement.
For the future, #DI is not a threat because it is not so easy to engage with it in a new policy direction.
The most realistic scenario for the future of #DifferentiatedIntegration is incremental and rather modest development, but this may not be sufficient in the case of a severe Eurozone crisis.
The costs of not advancing with further integration, for example concerning the Banking Union, are growing. While this seems to be widely acknowledged, the deadlock is still present.
- Irena Pereša, @ecfin, at #InDivEU Final Conference

Reintegration happens on the back of serious crises. The same crises discouraged other countries to apply for membership solidifying the outside.
Politics will be always a threat to achieve further integration through policies in Europe. We have to take this into account and work for effective governance in spite of national politics.
#DifferentiatedIntegration is most often used in relation to treaty change, enlargement or crises that require major response. Actions are policy oriented and ad hoc character rather than strategic.
- Stefan Telle, @EUI_Schuman, on salience on #DI among governments

"#CoFoE gives EU citizens a unique opportunity to debate the #FutureofEurope, and leaders should be ready to face uncomfortable truths about the current functioning of the EU"
First up in the panel is a keynote address from @EU_Commission Vice-Presidency @dubravkasuica, who talks about her brief in the Commission: democracy and demography
/2
The #CoFoE is a key theme of the speech: citizens' role in shaping the #FutureofEurope is a priority of the conference, and citizens from across Europe can deliberate with each other
