Is it the number of patients in intensive care units?
We all welcome the news that #Omicron appears to be causing less severe disease but hospital admissions for #COVID19 are clearly rising & this will still affect the ability to provide safe non-COVID care. @AmandaPritchard 2/
This v informative update from @ChrisCEOHopson today paints a stark picture of how finely things are balanced especially when staffing levels are factored in to the equation.
Are the public expected to be ok w/ an “only go to A+E if you’re about to die” level of health care? & are HCWs just expected to take such levels of stress, exhaustion & moral injury “on the chin”? @doctor_oxford@danielgoyal 4/
You may have thanked #NHS staff but I’ve not heard the PM or any #Tory MP other than @jeremy_hunt (bizarre I know) acknowledge that letting #COVID19 rip through the population in an uncontrolled & mostly unmitigated way is taking such a toll on our physical & mental health. 5/
The THRESHOLD clearly has nothing to do w/ the huge number of cases & ⬆️ hospitalisations in CHILDREN.
The situation in <18s, who’re mostly unvaccinated/partially vaccinated is of huge concern esp as 🏴schools go back.
As a father these figures must concern you? @RCPCHtweets 6/
One must conclude that CV/CEV adults & kids aren’t part of the picture as despite record numbers of cases, 😷-wearing in 🏴 is hit & miss, shielding’s ended & there’s been little/no attention to indoor ventilation, leaving few safe public places, incl schools! @cv_cev@_f4vl 7/
Presumably those boldly declaring the situation in the #NHS is manageable & safe are not the ones giving the go ahead for NIGHTINGALE HUBS…that would be v odd indeed🤨?
To me, needing to recruit an army of recently retired HCWs & volunteers suggests this crisis is v serious? 8/
So as you can see, it’s extremely hard for someone like me - an everyday dr wanting to care for patients to the best of my ability - to understand what YOUR THRESHOLD is for increasing PROTECTIONS?
From where I’m looking it seems to have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do w/ protecting the public from the ravages of acute #COVID, #LongCovid, avoidable bereavement/suffering, educational disruption or protecting the #NHS etc…
…& ALL about keeping tills full, hospitality/retail bigwigs & donors happy & an eye on the number of #Tory rebels against the most basic of ‘restrictions’.
In the last week myself & countless colleagues + 1000s of wonderful volunteers have been BOMBARDED by requests to DROP EVERYTHING & help w/ the mission for all adults to #GetBoostedNow, many of us giving up much needed days off.
Volunteers are needed for everything from car park attendants, to clearer uppers, through IT/admin experts to clinicians….there is a job for literally anyone (other than Mark Francois😳), who can spare a few hours!
So, could I make a polite request & ask (with absolutely no due respect) that rather than offering 👏👏👏s with one hand & the perfect storm of unmitigated uncontrolled #COVID19 spread & an #NHS in crisis with the other…
If you’re fit & well w/ no co-morbidities, live in a large home w/ a garden, have no financial worries/personal stresses, can easily WFH, do not have to care for a vulnerable adult or child & have access to private healthcare & education, I suspect you may not understand!

If you have space at home for your children to learn in peace & they have access to high quality IT equipment, or you have a nanny to teach & supervise them, you may not appreciate the struggles of ordinary parents who have to juggle childcare & work commitments. @nadhimzahawi

Since #FreedomDay I’ve been to Scotland, Majorca & Berlin.
In ALL, 😷wearing in indoor public spaces is routine, accepted & no one other than the 🏴 make a fuss!
All staff in hospitality #WearAMask & guests wear one when walking through the building/going to the loo.

Vaccine “passes” have not caused the ridiculous outrage seen here & no one has a hissy fit when asked to show proof of vaccination on entering a bar, restaurant, museum, theatre..bc it actually makes ppl feel safer!
Are the English think so different or “special”?

Hi headteachers in 🏴 👋…I’ve just returned from another challenging day at work to read this👇🏼….I can’t deny it’s hard to control my fury & astonishment that you’re proceeding with such obvious super spreading events like this.
Do some of you not understand the gravity of the current situation?
We’re on the edge of yet another avoidable catastrophe, to be frank we’ve probably gone over the top already, because ppl like @nadhimzahawi think they can outwit a virus….or maybe they simply don’t care😞?!
2/
Putting the obvious risk of acute & #LongCovid to individual children, families & staff aside for a moment, can you explain to me why my colleagues & I should keep putting ourselves at risk whilst some headteachers are behaving in such a reckless & irresponsible fashion?
3/3
How are we meant to explain to parents, families & staff the rationale for having zero mitigations, numerous super spreading events as exponential growth of the #OmicronVariant occurs, in the 10/7 before #Christmas?
