⚡️BREAKING: #RussianFederation recognizes the “independence” of its puppet republics in occupied #Donetsk and #Luhansk. Putin has told French President Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz he intends to sign the respective decree. Learn more in this thread:
The formal decision, designed by the #Kremlin before, has followed the emergency meeting of the Security Council, announced by #Putin today just after occupying authorities pleaded for recognition and military support. During the meeting, the Kremlin has:
☑ justified this decision by the previously fabricated picture of “#Ukrainian offensive”, “genocide against the people of #Donbas” and “humanitarian crisis” #Russian disinformation has been intensively promoting since mid-February;
☑ appealed to the need to protect the #Russian citizens in ORDLO, the number of which has increased due to the illegal forced passportization;
☑ expressed belief that painful consequences of recognizing the “republics” will subside and are worthwhile;
☑ heavily pushed the “fascism”, “Russophobia” and “external governance” narratives as well as stressed that the US is the only party #Russia should talk to.
Despite the declared agenda of recognizing “independence” of the so-called “L/DPR”, several members of the Security Council mentioned supporting “incorporating” them into #RussianFederation.
With this decision, #Russia effectively withdraws from the #MinskAgreements and creates a pretext for the formal deployment of its troops on the occupied territories, raising the direct military threat to Ukraine and global security.
⚡️In his address, #Putin has not just formally announced the decision, but also:
📍portrayed #Ukraine as a historical mistake with no tradition or right to sovereignty, claiming that it was, in full, “created by the USSR” and “Lenin was an architect of Ukraine” (more below)
📍threatened #Ukraine with “showing real decommunization”, hinting attack on its existence as it rejects the Soviet legacy;
📍promoted the image of Ukraine as a “failed state” under colonizing “external governance”;
📍insisted #Ukraine poses a military and terrorist threat against #Russia, particularly in #Crimea;
📍repeated the message about #NATO "deploying military bases in Ukraine" to threaten Russia;
📍positioned Ukraine's intention to join NATO as a "direct threat to Russian security";
⚡"Talking points" are distributed among the #Russian media on how to cover the "evacuation" and events around the escalation in the east of #Ukraine. Such papers were obtained by @StratcomCentre. More in this thread👇
The document includes 5 topics with instructions which key points to put emphasis on while covering:
📌 mobilization: positioning what is forced mobilization as a necessary call to "to protect #Donbas, freedom" and all "#Russian people"; propaganda of "patriotism"
📌 evacuation: promoting it as a forced security measure in the face of "an attack by the #Ukrainian army"; calling it "help from brotherly #Russia" and pushing messages about the "support" provided by the United Russia ruling party

🕯️Today, on the 80th anniversary of the mass deportations in the Baltic states by the #Soviet Union occupation forces, we are yet again reminded of the crimes perpetrated by this bloody regime:
▪️ On the night of 13–14 June 1941, the NKVD, the #Soviet secret service, started the operation aimed at purging the Baltic space of the most active anti-Soviet forces.
▪️ Tens of thousands of people were deported to the #Soviet Far East without trials in whole families (check the infographic below for the breakdown by countries).

💡‘Russkiy Mir’ depends not only on #disinformation but on a whole range of other tools, such as institutions, active measures, historical revisionism, and influence through religion. In particular, #Russian diaspora is actively weaponized to impose ‘Russkiy Mir’ abroad.
